Discover the locations that inspired Beatrix Potter on a 4.5-hour Lake District afternoon tour. Embark on a cruise, enjoy the spectacular Lake District landscape from the water. Visit Hill Top farm, Beatrix Potter’s former home, and see the landscapes that inspired some of her books. Entrance to Hill Top farm is included, however when Hill Top is closed customers will visit The World of Beatrix Potter. (Hill Top is closed every Friday outside of the UK school holidays and November - February). Continue on to the charming medieval village of Hawkshead, where poet William Wordsworth attended school, and then through the beautiful landscapes of the central lakes with lake and woodland views. A stunning stop on the tour, Tarn Hows is a picturesque beauty spot that boasts some spectacular views. Originally created in the 19th century by damming a series of smaller tarns. The area was then purchased by Beatrix Potter who gave it to the National Trust to ensure its preservation.

- Each passenger must have their own seat
- Please note, the pick up location you have chosen is where you will be collected from. It is not possible to be collected from a different location once chosen. If you are not at the correct pick up location and miss the tour, we cannot offer alternative arrangements.

The driver/ tour guide was exceptional, deeply personable, and was from the area and made the experience fun, but the attractions werent worth half a day and that much money

My son and I had a fab trip, the cruise was amazing in the beautiful sunshine, it was lovely to see Beatrix Potter's stunning cottage & the tour around after was very informative....when I asked my son what part of the trip was his fav, his reply was 'meeting Graham the tour guide' hehe

Stef's guide is good, very patient, very gentleman, we are very happy, we were waiting for the bus for forty minutes and can't wait, temporarily call to meet with them in the harbor by the lake, he also hugged us to reduce our anxiety, people are great! The whole lake area view is beautiful, people are kind, very happy trip, there is a mountain with water stick!

This tour was comprehensive, included a cruise, visit to a 'castle', visit to the house at Hilltop Farm, Earn Hows and Hawkeshead. The tour director was well-informed, presenting information easily.

I always look at reviews before I book a tour and I've been on a lot of tours. The reviews for this tour with Mountain Goat Tours looked excellent but my experience of going on the tour itself certainly wasn't. My wife and friends came to the Lake District for this tour but were so let down by it. We were packed like cattle onto a big 16 seater bus which arrived at Hill Top House after another bus, run by Mountain Goat Tours arrived with 16 Americans doing a group tour. As if that wasn't bad enough, there were also two other buses full of Japanese people also on a group tour which arrived at the same time. Hill Top is tiny and having so many people arrive at the same time was ludicrous. The staff at Hill Top didn't look very happy either as there seemed to be no advance planning to space this huge crowd out by Mountain Goat.It felt that they valued the big group tours over the independent tour that we were on. We were told that we had to wait until all of the group tours had been through and were just left to wander by ourselves about the garden. There were two Mountain Goat people with our tour though who did nothing. Eventually, we were allowed in but it was crammed and it really wasn't the experience that I was led to believe it was from the tour description and the reviews. It ruined our day and my wife and friends were very, very disappointed. I would not recommend Mountain Goat Tours.

Unfortunately, in the summer season Hill Top does get busy with visitors due to the popularity of the historic National Trust attraction. Due to our great partnership, Hill Top always has a time slot for our scheduled tours, so there is never a worry about not having time around the house. Unfortunately we cannot control the amount of groups or people at the time we arrive and we do suggest that if there is any queries on this before booking that our customers contact us directly as we would have suggested for yourself to visit at a quieter season. Our tour description and reviews depict the beautiful and historic nature of Hill Top and the surrounding areas that we visit, that inspired Beatrix herself, which even with the peak times, has a lot to be enjoyed and appreciated.
