Liliia was a fantastic guide! She shared so much wonderful information—not only about the foods we tasted, but also about Barcelona’s food culture and traditions. Her personality and fascinating life story made the experience even more enjoyable and memorable. I gave four stars rather than five only because, on a previous food tour I took in Portugal, six tastings meant visiting six different venues. On this tour, we visited three venues, sitting for tastings at two. That said, this is really just a comparison between two different tours, which isn’t necessarily fair. Overall, we had a wonderful experience with Liliia and thoroughly enjoyed learning about Barcelona through its food!
Although the food was great, there were a few miscommunications re: this tour. Our guide was at what Viator said was the end point. Therefore we lost time with him walking over to us. Also, our guide said it was a two hour tour, not a three hour tour as listed in Viator. He was going by time (I get it), not stops. Therefore we only stopped at a dessert place (first) and one restaurant. That being said, the desserts were wonderful and at the restaurant we tried 7 different items which were quite good. Our guide was knowledgeable and personable. He gets a high rating, but, overall, we were disappointed.
We waited at the location and no one was there and the location was closed. We looked all around and no one could locate the reference location. My wife was ripping mad and we left on our own. Later we got a whatsapp saying we're to meet which was not even close to the meeting location. It was several blocks away, but the message didn't arrive until an 1/2 hour later from when he first sent it. I was not a happy camper after spending $240...
Complete rip off, spent 200 pounds for 3 people, had one small sharing plate of tapas and a sharing dessert only. Would not recommend and I wish I could be refunded.
Dear Arianna, We are genuinely sorry to hear that your Barcelona experience felt this way. Feeling that a tour did not deliver on its promise is a real frustration, and we want you to know we have not taken your feedback lightly. We have shared your feedback directly with your host and highlighted that presentation and the overall sense of abundance matter just as much as the quality of the food itself. We are committed to using moments like this to raise the bar and make sure future guests have the experience they signed up for. Barcelona is a city with so much to offer and we hope it still delivered some great memories. We would love the chance to change your impression of what a Withlocals tour can be. Until next time, all the best. Kind Regards, The Withlocals Team
We had such a great time with Maria! She was born and raised in Barcelona and shared her culture and family story with us and took us all over Barcelona to experience the food and neighborhoods. She went the extra mile and we had a great time!
We have taken food tours in many cities and have always enjoyed them. This time, our tour was moved from Saturday to Sunday when some places were closed. Normally, our guide has a plan for places to go and specific things to eat (within our specified preferences). This is why we go on these tours - we want to visit places we wouldn’t go on our own and have a local order for us. In this case, the guide had to keep checking her phone for places to go and was figuring our route out “on the fly”. We paid a lot for a private tour for 4 people (only 3 attended) and when we tried to order a beer we were told that was not included (I paid the 2.75 euro fee separately). None of the food was particularly interesting or tasty. We did not experience anything we could not have done on our own. Our guide did speak English but she was hard to understand. Definitely not worth the expense. Do not recommend.
Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing this so honestly, and we are sorry the Barcelona tour did not deliver the experience you were looking for. You came with clear expectations, built from good experiences elsewhere, and we fell short of them. The guide's lack of preparation is something we take seriously. A private tour should feel curated and purposeful, not improvised on the spot. Moving the tour from Saturday to Sunday also brings its own challenges with venue availability, and while we understand that flexibility is sometimes needed, the guide should have adapted the itinerary accordingly and come prepared. Your point about the beer is also noted. Drinks are not included in the tour price unless stated in the inclusions, but the guide should always be clear about this upfront so there are no surprises. We will be following up with the guide directly on all of these points. Barcelona deserves to be discovered properly and we hope you might give it another chance with us one day. Kind Regards, The Withlocals Team
We had a private 3-hour, 9-tasting food tour in Barcelona for four people. First, I want to recognize our guide, Gonzalo. He was kind, communicative, and genuinely enthusiastic about sharing his city with us. His positive personality made the experience enjoyable, and he was one of the highlights of the tour. Unfortunately, the food experience itself did not meet our expectations, especially for the price. We paid approximately €550 for four people, and we did not feel the value matched the cost. We specifically booked what we understood to be a tapas tour. Instead, the experience felt more like a general food hop. We had two tastings at the market, several dishes at one restaurant, and then visited shops where many of the remaining tastings were essentially free samples. While everything was perfectly fine, it wasn’t the authentic tapas-focused experience we were hoping for. We’ve done food tours in Boston, Italy, and Greece, and this was our least favorite. That’s especially disappointing because Barcelona has such an incredible food culture. We left feeling there was so much more potential to showcase the city’s outstanding tapas, neighborhoods, and culinary traditions. If you’re looking for a friendly, knowledgeable guide, Gonzalo is excellent. However, if you’re expecting a premium tapas experience that justifies the price, this tour may not meet your expectations.
Adi was our guide and it was spectacular! A little bit of history, culture and FOOD! The stories behind everything just topped off the experience. A must do for your first trip to Barcelona.
Alan is amazing! Five stars does not do him justice. This was so much more than a food tour. Although food was absolutely delicious with choice of venues superb, Alan supplied us with his wealth of knowledge. Not only the history of the food but history of Barcelona as well! This tour is not to miss! Even if you have time for only one tour, THIS IS IT!
the guide was very well informed on the food and the town. We got to see a lot. Food id a big event in Spain
