Leave Bangkok behind and travel toward Ayutthaya, the former royal capital of Siam. Along the way, your private guide will introduce the city’s history and explain how its location, waterways and international trade helped it grow into one of Asia’s most important kingdoms.
Enter the UNESCO-listed historical area, where temple towers, royal monuments and weathered brick ruins remain across the old island. As you travel between the main sites, your guide will help connect the individual temples into the larger story of Ayutthaya’s prosperity, royal power and eventual fall.
Explore one of Ayutthaya’s most recognizable temples and see the famous Buddha head held naturally within the roots of a growing tree. Walk among the monastery ruins, weathered Buddha images and remains of the central tower while learning why Wat Mahathat once served as an important religious centre of the kingdom. There will be time for photographs and questions without the rushed pace of a large group.
Visit the former royal temple within the grounds of Ayutthaya’s old palace. Its three elegant chedis, built to enshrine the ashes of Ayutthaya kings, remain among the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Walk through the spacious ruins while your guide explains royal ceremonies, palace life and the importance of the temple to the Ayutthaya court.
Pass beside this active Buddhist sanctuary, located next to Wat Phra Si Sanphet and home to one of Thailand’s largest seated bronze Buddha images. Your guide will explain its connection to the former royal-palace area as you continue through the historical island.
Climb toward the temple’s prominent chedi and enjoy views across rows of saffron-robed Buddha images and the surrounding grounds. Learn how the temple became connected with King Naresuan and one of Ayutthaya’s most celebrated military victories. The active monastery also offers a contrast to the abandoned ruins found elsewhere in the historical park.
Step inside one of Ayutthaya’s oldest and most active temples to see the enormous seated Buddha image known locally as Luang Pho To. Observe local worship traditions and discover the temple’s long connection with Chinese and Thai communities. Its lively spiritual atmosphere provides a very different experience from the outdoor archaeological ruins.
Relax aboard a local boat and view Ayutthaya from the waterways that once supported the royal capital. Cruise past riverside temples, local communities and scenes of everyday life around the historic island. Morning and earlier departures offer clear daytime views, while later departures may experience the temples and river in the softer light around sunset. The exact lighting and sunset conditions depend on the selected departure time, season and weather
Explore one of Ayutthaya’s most photogenic riverside temples, designed around a towering central prang surrounded by smaller structures. Walk through the symmetrical complex while learning about its royal origins and Khmer-influenced architecture. The riverside setting and late-afternoon light make this an especially rewarding place for photography.

If you love taking photos, this trip is 10/10. The contrast between the ancient brick architecture and the blue sky is stunning, and the view from the boat is unbeatable. A super peaceful, beautiful day out of the city!
Got some really nice pictures of the temples and the river sunset. It was a long day out, but the comfortable ride made it easy.
We took this tour with our 5yo son. Our guide Army was incredibly knowledgeable about Ayutthaya and Thai history in general real and made the tour very interesting. High river levels meant we had to do a modified river cruise but we appreciated that they still included a cruise when they could have just cancelled that part. Army took us to a hidden local gem for a delicious and very cheap lunch & was flexible when we wanted to skip one stop due to our son getting tired. He took so many photos and videos of us during the day. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We’re delighted to hear that you and your family enjoyed the day with Army and found the tour both interesting and flexible. We’re especially glad the river cruise could still be included despite the high water levels, and that the local lunch stop added something special to your experience. Thank you again for traveling with us, and we hope your family takes home many great memories from Ayutthaya!
If you have an extra day in Bangkok, Ayutthaya is worth the trip. The ruins are interesting, the Buddha head in the tree is something you don’t see every day, and the boat gives you another view of the old city. We came back with lots of photos and good memories.
The old walls, towers and Buddha statues were what I liked most. There are so many good photo spots around Ayutthaya. We went on the boat afterwards and got to see more of the area from the water.
Catching the sunset boat cruise was 100% worth it! Seeing the temples from the water as the sun was setting was beautiful. Exploring the temples on land earlier in the day was great too we could really take our time at each site, and our guide gave us just the right amount of history. Very smooth, comfortable day overall.
Everything was handled really well from start to finish. We had plenty of time at each temple to wander around, take photos, and ask questions. The boat ride around the historic island was a great way to wind down the day. Comfortable, easy, and very well managed!
Having private transport made traveling between Bangkok and Ayutthaya completely stress-free. The temples were incredible to see in person, and the boat trip around the island gave a nice, relaxing break after walking around. Highly recommend
We’re in the van heading back now and I’m still looking through all the photos from today. Ayutthaya was interesting. The boat ride was my favourite moment because the view from the river was so different from walking around the temples. Would happily recommend this tour
