The Academy of Athens The building was designed as part of an architectural "trilogy" in 1859 by the Danish architect Theophil Hansen, along with the University and the National Library. Funds had been provided by the magnate Simon Sinas specifically for the purpose, and the foundation stone was laid on 2 August 1859. Construction proceeded rapidly, after 1861 under the supervision of Ernst Ziller, but the internal tumults during the latter years of King Otto's reign, which resulted in his ousting in 1862, hampered construction until it was stopped in 1864. Works resumed in 1868, but the building was not completed until 1885, at a total cost of 2,843,319 gold drachmas, most of it provided by Sinas, and, after his death, by his wife Ifigeneia. The Academy's main building is one of the major landmarks of Athens.
Omonia Square was constructed in 1846, with its original name being "Plateia Anaktoron" (Palace Square). The area in which the square was going to be built was intended to be used for the construction of the palace (anaktora) by architects Stamatios Kleanthis and Eduard Schaubert. Later, the square was renamed to "Othonos Square" in honor of King Otto, the first king of Greece. After Otto was dethroned, the square was renamed to "Omonoia Square" in 1862, as it was here that the leaders of the opposing political factions gave the oath of peace (omonia) to stop hostilities.
Karaiskaki Square is a large square located in the district of Metaxourgeio and includes a metro station. The largest part of this square has been designed as a green area with trees, flowers and grass. In the center of the square on a pyramidal base stands the Icarus Monument to Fallen Aviators, a modern art metal statue created in 1987 by the sculptor Evangelos Moustakas and the architect Ioannis Moustakas.

The driver was very knowledgeable and accommodating. The problem was was in the back seat couldn’t hear him. Need a better system. Also the car never cooled down. Communication between the driver and the office was poor. We advised that our hotel reservation had to be changed. So two days in advance we notified the office. The driver went to the cancelled hotel.

Booking status: Amended Travel date: Sat, Jun 29, 2024 at 09:30 am / 4 adults - ladies You Booked on: Fri, Apr 12, 2024 Your driver and vehicle were reserved a long time ago. You informed us on 26th for changing hotels. We made the change in our tour list, which is not small. We notify the driver personal, only if Viator guests cancel the tour 24 hours before. Your driver did not realize the change, but he called you 10 min before the meeting time for instructions and came to to your new hotel exactly at the time you requested 09:30 am 2) The driver was very knowledgeable and accommodating. The vehicle has a microphone system and you never complaint to the driver or you never requested it. 3) Also the car never cooled down. The vehicle Minivan / 8 seats is a model 2022. On your tour date the temperature in Athens was 38 C. 100 F and obviously will take 2 to 3 min to cool down. As this 5 hours tour included many stops in different places in Athens we understand that you would like the driver to keep the engine on, but this is illegal. Our driver was wonderful!. Great signage made it easy to find him. He drove with intention to show us things and places with good picture opportunities, made sure if we had museum or entrance tickets he could time his route properly to get us there in time and always had plenty of ice cold water to offer us.
Our driver Christos was right on time to pick us up from the port. We had previously messaged the vendor with things we wanted to see and Christie got the message because the tour took us to all the highlights of the city including the Acropolis and Olympic Stadium as well as some of the best hilltop viewing points. The driver cannot come to the sites with you but he will give you easy directions and wait in convenient spots.

Our driver was the best! His name was Stephano (spelling?). He took complete consideration that we did not have too much time so he made sure we saw the highlights. His lunch recommendation was wonderful and Stephano translated perfectly for us. This was a last minute booking and our driver was right on time at the port where our ship came in. Highly recommend!

Our guide was terrific. He arrived on time and was very pleasant and enjoyable. I requested a different pick up and drop off time and location drop off which he gladded did. I also requested that he speak in a loud voice because I was traveling with my dad that was hard of hearing and he wonderful at making sure my dad heard everything he said. He brought us to great sites. Well worth the cost.
