ARCHEOLOGY TOUR (Full Day Private Tour)

I’ve done many tours with Azores Expeditions and Juca, and I honestly can’t recommend them enough. Juca has an incredible amount of knowledge about Terceira, its history, landscape and the places you visit, but he’s also a very respectful and thoughtful guide. One of the things I love most is that even when we revisit a place I’ve been with him before, we somehow always notice or learn something new. There is so much to see on the island that if you have the time, I highly recommend booking a few days rather than just one. Marisa is also the exceptional other half of the team. She takes care of the bookings and makes sure everything runs smoothly, and together they make the whole experience feel very personal and easy. I’ve spent a lot of time exploring Terceira, and my tours with Azores Expeditions have been some of the best ways to really get to know the island.

Juco is an outstanding guide: considerate, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. On this tour, we visited sites only he has access to, and the sites are amazing. I definitely saw petroglyphs, as well as many other carvings, markings, and constructions that really set my imagination going. It made sense to me that there was human habitation on these islands well before European settlement. There's proof all over the world in the archeological (and written) record that some ancient peoples were excellent at navigation and sailing the seas, just as much as medieval people: ancients could have found the Azores long long ago. On this tour we also stopped for a truly delicious lunch at a restaurant known for their traditional alcatra (a sumptuous slow cooked beef dish), and we stopped at several beautiful viewpoints as well. Juco is an excellent photographer and he took some wonderful panoramic shots. 10/10 would recommend

If you are interested in archeology and anthropology, Juca is is a great guide. Not only did we see some great sites, we learned about the customs of Terceira as well.

We had the absolute pleasure of spending the day on an archaeology tour in Terceira with Juca in February, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip to the Azores. He took our family all over the island, showing us breathtaking scenic spots that felt almost unreal. Every stop was thoughtfully chosen, and the entire day flowed effortlessly, giving us a complete and unforgettable experience of the island. On top of that, Juca is an incredibly talented photographer. He captured beautiful moments of our family throughout the day, photos we will truly cherish forever. We cannot thank him enough for the time, care, and heart he put into our day. If you’re considering a tour in Terceira, don’t hesitate. This is an experience you’ll never forget.

My Engkish-speaking guide Juca was knowledgeable and well informed, and he incorporated his many years of experience exploring Terceira into a fascinating full day tour of the island. The archaeologcal sites are not well marked, and a guide is needed to enter privately owned areas. I highly recommend this tour.

It was fascinating to learn about the prehistoric history on the island of Terceira in the Azores! We spent one day focusing on archeology, and another day on photography. We were taken to different places around the island, and we really enjoyed these tours. Also, the lunch spots had some of the best food we had during our stay!

This time was really well spent! A truly amazing archeological tour! We were able to visit sites which are probably 3000+ years old!

Impressive, I loved the activity, but I liked the guide much more: how he explained; his tips on the island, what to do, what to see; he took us to beautiful places. It is very worthwhile, I will definitely repeat in the future.
