The aurora borealis is one of the most amazing natural wonders this world has to offer.  Join us on a quest to view and photograph the northern lights in and around the Anchorage area.  We will use our luxury tour vehicle as a base camp as well as a state of the art portable winter shelter complete with heater, chairs, hot drinks and snacks.  We use modern technology to forecast both the space and earth weather each night.  The tour only operates on nights that have a reasonable expectation for the lights to be visible.  While we cannot guarantee you will see the aurora, if we do operate the tour we have over a 90% success rate of seeing the northern lights. You only pay if we operate the tour.  This tour is designed for anyone who has viewing the northern lights on their bucket list including both sightseers and serious photographers.  Aurora photography instruction as well as Aurora portraits are provided.  Tours generally depart at 9 pm and return at 3 am.

Awesome display of Lights!

Well worth the experience! My adventure seeing the lights was iffy after constant rain shed doubt on the evening but my guide went out of her way to drive us over the mountain range to lead us to a window in the cloud cover to show our group the spectacular northern lights.

Operator response

Thank you so much for sharing your experience on our Anchorage Northern Lights Tour! Aurora hunting takes patience and persistence, so we are thrilled that your guide was able to navigate the weather, cross the mountains, and find that clear window for your group! We hope the memories of that night stay with you for a long time, and we'd love to welcome you back on another adventure in the future!

Come prepared to be patient and bring warm clothes, even in summer. Heated van to retreat to helps. Leaders are knowledgeable and solicitous. If It was a grand adventure and we did get to see Lady Aurora! Magical.

The experience is...

The experience is awesome. The view of the Northern Lights from a remote location (away from city lights) is a must to see. The multitude of stars is beautiful.

Operator response

Thank you so much for this wonderful review! We're absolutely thrilled that you had such an awesome experience on our Anchorage Northern Lights Tour. Getting away from the city lights really does make all the difference — there's nothing quite like witnessing the aurora across a sky full of stars in the Alaska wilderness. We hope to welcome you back again someday, and we'd love for your friends and family to have the same unforgettable experience!

Pleasant experience and beautiful views

Overall the experience was pleasant, the guide very cheerful, explained everything and made us feel very accompanied by the experience. Unfortunately the auroras could not be seen in full, only a couple of minutes. I think the risk of going one night, there's a high chance they won't see each other, is a multi-day activity waiting for them to go out completely.

Operator response

Thank you for sharing your thoughtful feedback. We’re really glad to hear you enjoyed the experience and that your guide helped make the evening engaging and comfortable. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and that’s part of what makes them so special. Every night is completely unique; sometimes they dance across the sky for hours, and other times they may only appear briefly, as they did during your tour. Factors like solar activity and Earth-weather conditions are always changing, which makes each viewing special. We agree that giving yourself multiple opportunities over several nights can increase the chances of seeing a stronger display. We’re glad you were still able to catch a glimpse. It’s a magical moment, even if only for a short time! We truly appreciate you joining us and hope to welcome you back again in the future!

Our guide Dana

If you are to see the northern lights, go with Dana. She is like a dog with a bone. She just won’t quit. She explains the lights. She studies the lights. She photographs the lights. She loves the lights and she wants to share them with all of us. It is a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it. Just try to nap before!!

Spectacular

Our guide was very friendly. I forgot her name but she was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the aurora. We were able to see it come alive at the 1st spot and didn't have to chase it. It was spectacular.

We chased the lights but didnt catch them. Nonetheless, it was a great experience. My tour guide, Dana, was friendly and knowledgeable. I would book this again.
