It is dedicated to and named after the Panfilov heroes which were the 28 soldiers of an Alma-Ata Infantry unit who allegedly died while defending Moscow from the German invasion during the Second World War
Republic Square
A beautiful and open place to enjoy the culture of Almaty: The Republic Square in Almaty is the home to the Akimat House, the Monument of Independence, The Presidential Residence, The Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan is right nearby.
Arbat Almaty
Also known as Arbat Market, this place is a wonderful place to visit. Similar to city squares in other countries, Arbat is actually a stretch of pedestrian street between Nazarbayeva and Ablai Khan, filled with artists, entertainers, shops, and supermarket. It also houses the TSUM shopping mall nearby.
Kök Bazaar is located in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Since its inauguration in 1875, the market has been an important trading point in Almaty. The market currently sells spices, prepared foods, produce, textiles, furniture and a variety of different items, including antiques.
The Central Mosque of Almaty

My guide was Nargiza and I cannot praise her highly enough. An in depth knowledge of the history of Almaty and Kazakhstan given to me in perfect English. She will tailor a tour for you including a shopping for souvenirs opportunity if desired. Even bargained for me and obtained a price reduction. She is warm, funny and a delight to be around. Tatyana gave us an excellent tour in fluent English. She presented informative and insightful information about the history and cultures of this area. We had visited some other Central Asian countries and Tatyana related their history to what was happening in Kazakhstan. Tatyana also pointed out many interesting architectural elements of the buildings in Alamaty, which we found interesting. The booking with Guy Deez, through Viator, was easy.
