The Nocturnal Tour at Alice Springs Desert Park was amazing. We had a small group of only 4 people with an excellent guide. Michael is a zoologist working at the park. The knowledge he imparted about the animals was most interesting. The tour is held in a very large predator proof enclosure and is home to 6 threatened species and a healthy echidna population. Mala are extinct in the wild but thriving here. We saw dozens and dozens as well as many Golden Bandicoots, many Brush-Tailed and Burrowing Bettongs, a Bilby and a Giant Stick Rat. The Mala, golden bandicoots and bettongs all came very close to us and one echidna even checked. out my boot with his probiscis. I could not recommend this tour highly enough. The daytime self-guided tour we did was also fabulous especially from a bird-watching perspective.
This was a lovely wander around in the park after dark, many animals, mala, rats, echidnas seen, head torches provided, take water with you in summer, guides friendly, informative and competent in unexpected situations. Thanks for an amazing peek into desert night life. Stars gorgeous also.
What a great experience! The zoo keepers were lovely and super informative. We were lucky enough to see all animals except the bilby. One recommendation would be some additional lighting or signage from the car park, hard to work out where to go when you get there in the dark.
Great tour, very informative. We got to see 7/7 of the animal species and multiple times. According to tour guide it doesn’t happen often but we were lucky.
What a great hour spent looking at cute little critters by dark with entertaining and informative guides who clearly love their work. A must do experience.
We had such a fantastic experience on the Desert Park nocturnal tour! Exploring the desert under the night sky was magical, and seeing the wildlife in their natural environment was something truly special. A huge thank you to the guides, Stef and Cassandra, who made the night unforgettable. Our guide Stef was warm, knowledgeable, and passionate, and her stories brought the desert to life. Stef answered all our questions with so much care and made the whole group feel engaged and included. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting—it's a unique way to experience the desert and learn about the incredible animals that call it home!
We were at Desert Park for seven hours today! Had no idea it would be that good 🤣 and completely overstayed. We listened to about 5 of the daily talks, all great but particularly enjoyed the birds of prey show. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and generous with their time. Had a picnic lunch in the picnic area in the carpark, and a coffee and treat at the cafe. Cafe was classy, with good coffee. Great facilities - impressed by the function centre, and the fact they hire out mobility scooters. Alice Springs should be pretty proud of Desert Park.
I highly recommend this nocturnal adventure. The guides were knowledgeable with a great sense of humor. It added to our outback experience in a way that will be forever memorable.
Got to see all the possible animals in their natural habitat. My only gripe is that it's difficult getting to and from the park, especially since Uber is not in Alice Springs
Loved seeing the Mala and all the other Australian animals! The Mala was our favorite because there were so many, they are soooo cute plus they came up very close to us! Loved our tour guided tours
