AVOID, Unless you love grime

Was really looking forward to this as it was a gift for my girlfriend’s birthday, but the whole day was just a mess. Firstly they were half an hour late picking us up from our hotel. Luckily the mini bus that collected us was clean and modern and had air con, though no guide and the driver spoke not a word of English. On route to our destination we took a detour and were taken to a shop in the desert where we were almost forced to buy Argan Oil. Eventually we arrived at our destination and it all looked good and clean and nice. But there were approx 4-5 local lads who were running the experience, who seemed to think the day was all about them. As we relaxed on the cabanas or swam in the pool they would walk around videoing you on their phones without asking permission which made everyone feel very uncomfortable. The pool itself was not clean, I’m not sure what I expected being in the desert but the water was murky and the pool walls and floor filthy. There was a bar selling snacks and soft drinks or tea, we had 2 cokes 25drm each and hired 2 towels for the day also 25drm each. If you enjoy grime music then you will love it here. The local lads running the tour played it all day, continuously, non stop and were dancing to it around the pool. And it was loud, very loud. They just seemed to treat the day as party for themselves. We didn’t book the quad biking or camel ride as extras on the tour so people were coming and going throughout the day. At 9pm we got called to come to the big tent next door for dinner. Luckily we had already got out the pool and dried off as there was no prior warning. As we entered the beautiful big Bedouin tent we had more grime music playing, loudly, which didn’t really fit in with the relaxed vibe of the place. I expected more people to show up on buses at this point as we felt a bit lost in this huge tent as there was only about 20 of us, whereas this tent with all the tables and cushions to sit on would accommodate approx 200 people. As we sat and ate our traditional Moroccan food, which was lovely, it was off putting by the loud grime music being played, loudly enough that I could not hear the person next to me talking. The drinks waiter unfortunately did not speak a word of English and we ordered a bottle of water, a mint tea and an iced tea, but somehow received 2 bottles of water. At the end of our meal some traditional Moroccan dancers came and played some drums which was entertaining and then got everyone up to join in and dance and then we had a fire show which was also entertaining. We then got back on the bus to take us home to which we had more grime music. Maybe I’m just getting old but it felt like the same song was just being played over and over again !! Throughout the day we asked them to turn the music down 4-5 times but it seemed soon as the next song came on it would go up again as it seemed to be one of their favourites. On the way home the driver missed out hotel and when I questioned it was told that he would drop us back last. At one point we were 5 mins from our hotel yet the 40 minute trip took us over 2 hours and we got home after midnight Overall I would not recommend this trip

Highly recommended

Great experience and value for money. The trip was very well organised . The Agafay desert was the biggest attraction, but we also learn about traditionally prepared Argan Oil by Berber women, then you can have a camel and quad ride if you like. On the end of the day we watched a beautiful sunset and after that we had a traditional Moroccan meal accompanied with live Moroccan music and on the end was a fire show. Hakima was a great guide too. Highly recommended.

A guaranteed change of scenery!

We had an excellent afternoon in Agafay. The site is new and was done with great taste... once the palm trees have grown a bit more, the site will be truly magnificent. The Berber meal was excellent and the dances were exotic. All the staff are very friendly. A big thank you also to Omar, our private driver. A special mention for the fire show, which is fantastic! Definitely not to be missed!

Overrated.

I consider it a scam, they talk to you about a desert but in reality it is an arid zone, where they have made a tacky place with a pool of not-at-all clean water, you take a ride on camels full of ticks led by a boy with the camels tied to one another, you take a photo and that's it, and those who have hired a Quad are the same, the owner in front to set the speed so no one leaves the circuit or does tricks. Afterward the dinner is a couscous, soup and vegetable tagine and tea, but if you want to drink water you have to pay €2.50 a bottle, and at the end you have to give money to those who played the drum and the castanets. I have been left disappointed. And that is how all those excursions to the ""desert"" are.

Worst experience of my life.

It was the worst experience of my life since it is not a desert, there is no sand, the ground is rocky and it is in the middle of houses with fields, the photographs they show are totally different from reality, bad service from the receptionists, they do not treat you with respect.
