Come with us for your small-group Aurora hunt for an ethical experience chasing the Aurora Borealis. Leave the light pollution in Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. Our guides use forecasts and local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights. When we find the best spot, we will dress in warm thermal suits, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a warm meal. During the tour, your guide will take photos of you, which will be available for free in web-sized resolution after the tour. Relax by the fire with hot tea before returning to your hotel in Tromsø. Though there is never a guarantee of seeing this phenomenon, our Aurora Hunters will do their best every night of the season. Increase your chances of seeing the Northern Lights by joining on multiple evenings.

On occassion when it is too cloudy to have gaps in Norway we might cross the border to Finland. This will only be done when there are substantially higher chances of seeing gaps in the clouds in Finland then in Norway. On the location, your guide will set up a cosy campfire and serve a homemade meal. Your guide will share with you stories about the region and explain the aurora borealis phenomenon as well as take professional photos of landscapes and portraits of our guests.

We had an amazing time on our tour with Bart! Not only did the whole trip go super smoothly and we saw some absolutely beautiful auroras, Bart took wonderful portraits of us in front of the northern lights and also told us a lot about the science & history behind the aurora & the area, which was super interesting! I was also very grateful for him helping me set up my camera so I could take pictures with my own gear as I wasn't very knowledgeable about night-time photography. This tour will forever be a super precious memory which I will never forget!

Highly recommend Wandering Owl for an aurora hunt throughout the night! Our guide was Bart who was passionate, knowledgeable and adamant he was going to find us what we paid to see…and he did! It was our first time visiting Tromso and we had to research and read many reviews to make sure we were booking what we wanted to see or do. Wandering Owl were a friendly, organised and knowledgeable team and I’m so glad we booked them. You don’t know your travelling route until the day, it depends on the clouds / weather. We got one garage stop there and back so go easy on drinking too much before you go! Dress warm, although the thermal suits they provide are amazing, you don’t have to wear them but suggest you do as it gets very cold. I took a couple of chocolate bars in my pocket to keep me going throughout the night however we were offered a vegan soup and hot chocolate during our travels.

Great tour operator. I travelled solo and the setup is great for that. Went snowshoeing and on a aurora hunt with them. Small groups, super friendly and knowledgeable guides. Also loved the fire, soup and cocoa set-up. Highly recommend

I did the express tour with Bart. Wonderful experience. Bart knew what he was looking for and found us some great lights. It was a nice tour because it was quick and went to great spots. It was the best night for the lights we had!

everything about this trip was great, the organization, communication and overall experience showed Wandering Owl as an excellent outfit. Our guide Evgeni found us a fabulous viewing spot by a fjord with a stunning mountain backdrop. He lit us a campfire and later served us hot soup while providing endless aurora facts and stories. His extensive knowledge paid off as we were treated to a wonderful aurora display, a superb highlight to a great evening. We had an amazing and unforgettable experience with Wandering Owl. Our tour guide + driver Bart put in much effort in finding clear skies to capture the Northern Lights. We managed to get a lot of amazing photos of the aurora on its own and also with me and my partner. This group is adults-only and it is also even smaller than most groups, at only 8 people. It definitely made it easier to get to know all the members of the group during the trip. It was also easier to accommodate for individual needs (e.g. somebody feeling really cold and had to stay in the van or get the thermal suits early on, thanks Bart!).

After multiple Aurora tours in Tromsø I can confidently say that Wandering Owl is the best! For the mini bus tour they have the smallest groups with the most comfortable vehicle, the best food, and the easiest way to bring the suits and boots. Our guide Evgeni was amazing, he found us the clearest sky and took incredible photos for us even on a night with low activity. He taught us all about the aurora and kept us entertained while waiting for more lights. I highly recommend him and Wandering Owl for your experience in Tromsø.
