Awesome Guide and Concept - lacks content
Ricardo was an awesome guide. He was welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. The ride in the Landrover was a fun way to make us geel.like we were heading on adventure.
The problem was that there wasn't much to see... a tree that had been stripped and the examples of cork layers with an explanation could have happened anywhere.
When I booked a 2 hour tour and started seeing notes that it would be 1 - 2 hours, I should have clued in.
I did not find it a good value for my money and therefore would not recommend it to others based on that.
Suggestions:
1) Show the cork stripping video in the building where we met. Light and heat made that experience uncomfortable.
2) Actually take the group to an area that is being stripped if at all possible - or note ahead of time if that can't be done - I know tours need to be sold, but I was expecting this, and for the money I felt it was expensive to see things that I can see on the side of the road.
3) Provide some sort of trinket/momento of appreciation . Again, very expensive for what we got.

Ricardo (#2) is the best tour guide!
Great experience! Fun ride, nicely paced, very educational. The cork forests and vineyards are obviously well-cared for in a sustainable way by passionate stewards. Our guide Ricardo (#2) was charming and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

Cork forest tour
We had an incredible time on this tour. The scenery was beautiful and the information was very interesting.
Our guide Ricardo, was very friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable. Also funny. Also very patient but firm with the transmission of the vintage Land Rover.
We will definitely recommend this experience to family and friends.
Thank you.

Bad Tour Program - Cork Safari
The entire program is a disappointment even though the guide Daniel was engaging. We went on the Classical Land Rover tour on 31st May 2025. The weather was great but the tour lacks depth in terms of an immersive experience. There is no opportunity to use the cork axe, no opportunity to see different cork trees in different maturing stage. While it may be difficult to witness the actual harvest, no attempt was made to show a customised video of how cork is harvested and process in the past and how differently it is done today. The existing tour is actually a waste of precious time in your travel vacation. All the information that was shared could easily be obtained online, what is needed is an immersive experience which is not there in this tour.
Operator response
Thank you for sharing your feedback about the Classical Land Rover tour on 31st May 2025. We're pleased to hear you found Daniel engaging and that the weather was favorable during your visit.
We’re truly sorry the tour did not meet your expectations. Your comments about the lack of hands-on experiences—such as using the cork axe or seeing cork trees at different stages of maturity—are understandable. However, for both safety reasons and out of deep respect for this centuries-old tradition, we do not allow guests to handle the cork axe or engage directly in the harvesting process. As our guide had mentioned, cork trees have been protected in Portugal since the 13th century and are an essential part of our natural and cultural heritage. It takes years of training to learn how to properly harvest cork, and only experienced professionals are allowed to do so.
As part of the tour, we do include a short video of a previous harvest to offer insight into the traditional methods still used today. The technique—stripping cork by hand with an axe—has remained unchanged for centuries (2 000 years), reflecting the enduring value of this sustainable craft.
During the farm visit, you may have noticed cork trees of various sizes and stages. These trees grow slowly and can take more than 25 years to mature, with some taking up to 65 years before producing cork suitable for bottle stoppers.
We’re sorry to hear that the experience didn’t meet your expectations, though we do feel your review may not fully reflect the spirit and intention of the tour. Our goal is always to create a meaningful and memorable experience that connects visitors with the nature, culture, and heritage of this unique region.
We take what we do very seriously and recognize that this kind of experience may not be for everyone. While it’s disappointing to hear you felt it was a waste of time, it was still a pleasure to welcome you and everybody else who comes and enjoys sharing, what we believe, to be a deeply rooted and valuable tradition.

A Fun and Informative Outing
The meetup location is a winery. Inside you can see where the wines are bottled and barrels are stored. What you're really paying for is a journey by aged Land Rover into a nearby cork farm with your guide. You get to learn about the cork trees, how they are "harvested", and the various inter-related activities on the farm, such as how Iberian pigs are raised, that all work together to create a thriving ecosystem.
Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The pace is fairly relaxed. You're just going along for the ride and getting out in a couple of places to look more closely at things. On subsequent days, we could recognize the difference between Cork and Holm Oak trees and identify virgin cork and in some places how long it was the trees were last harvested. It added another dimension to our trip.
Finally, we opted for the lunch at a local restaurant afterwards. The restaurant had nice decor and the food was decent but didn't knock my socks off.
