Very experienced driver (Mr. Sun). He not only gave us information as a tour guide, he also made suggestions which make our trip more smoothly. We strongly recommend him as if you are not very familiar with where you are visiting.
We only had 2 days in Beijing and wanted to see the Great Wall. We booked a tour not knowing what to expect but were thrilled with the service, communication and ease with which our driver assisted us. Tian Wei was friendly and very knowledable giving us lots of advice. The tour was seamless and well worth being picked up and dropped back at our hotel. The views were amazing at Mutianyu and we were fortunate to not have large crowds. We highly recommend asking for Tian as your driver if booking a tour to the Great Wall in Beijing.
We were amazed by the beauty of the mountains in which the Great Wall is located. The trip led us to a beautiful part of it. I highly recommend choosing Badalang. I also recommend our driver, Gao Dapeng, who is an extremely kind and helpful person with a big knowledge of history. His stories about the past and the present were captivating. He also drove us to try Chinese tea!

Our driver Sun arrived bang on time at 6:00am. He had sent a message the day before to confirm. The limousine was clean and comfortable. We arrived at the entrance to the Great Wall early bypassing all the queues and no need to take the bus shuttle. Sun made all the bookings for us, entrance fee, the cable car (and the bus, which we were advised is unavoidable). This cost us an extra Y200 each, but it was worth it. After parking up, Sun joined us in the cable car taking us to the start of our walk along the wall. Leaving us there we arranged to meet after our Great Wall exploration. Because we had made the choice of an early start we were the first people to arrive on the wall… beyond our expectation. We had the most immersive experience walking alone along the wall as far as it is possible to go. On the way back we enjoyed the crowded atmosphere of the world famous relic, but our memories will always be of our time alone with the ancient wonder. Our return journey was enhanced by Sun’s knowledge of Chinese music culture, movie sound track classics and a pop hit from 30 years ago… the last time I was in this fantastic country.
GAO DAPENG WAS FANTASTIC. I never usually leave reviews but Gao was an amazing guide. He was very accommodating with the language barrier and had a translation tool on hand for my wife and I to communicate with him. He was kind, lighthearted, and was one of the highlights of our time in Beijing. The wall was breathtaking, but it was made even better by Gao’s attentiveness and helpfulness in navigating through the ticket process and seeing the wall. I would 100% recommend the service and if any of the other transporters are as good as Gao, you are in amazing care!
Great trip to badaling walk and back. Great to get there earlier before the rush and have time to see the wall before it got busy
The driver was fantastic - easy to get a hold of, fluent in English (even though I speak Chinese, my wife does not) and extremely helpful in recommending we go to a different section of the wall since we had the time (saved us a lot of traffic and frankly the experience was way better with less tourists). He was also able to get us VIP passes to skip the line and drove us up to the entry (vs. having to take a shuttle from where most tourists are dropped). The only thing I wish they told us was that seniors could be free - but partly that's becuase I didn't say anything about my parent's ages. Overall a great experience, I'd highly recommend.
Other travelers should not expect an exceptionally friendly service. Yes, our guide was able to take us to a less densely visited part of the Great Wall, but she wasn’t necessarily excited to be there or take our pictures. She slept the ride there and back. Instead of asking if we wanted to get lunch, she asked if we could stop for her and the driver to get lunch. We ended up not going on the second part of the trip to the Summer Palace because the vibe was just very off, we felt rushed and kind of like the things we wanted to do were a burden to her

We would like to clarify a few points to address the misunderstanding: As promised, our guide took you to the VIP, nearly empty section of Badaling Great Wall with no crowds, and we can confirm the guide shared photos of the quiet, open sections of the wall from the day to showcase the exclusive access we provided. Regarding the lunch arrangement: Our guide did not force you to stop for her meal. She only checked in with you after you mentioned you needed to change hotels and chose to skip the Summer Palace to go shopping on your own, asking if you would like to grab lunch together. We never rushed you during the tour; we simply followed the scheduled itinerary to move between sites after you finished exploring each location. We deeply regret that a miscommunication made you feel unwelcome or that your needs were a burden. This is absolutely not the level of attentive, friendly service we strive to deliver. We will conduct a full review of this tour and retrain our guide to ensure better communication and a more positive experience for all future guests. Highly recommended! Zhao Zhongyue, our tour leader, was punctual in the morning. He picked us up at our hotel as scheduled, in fact, he arrived even earlier! He accompanied us throughout the tour, explaining Chinese history. He allowed us to visit places not very crowded with tourists, skipping all the lines, and he even took photos of us in truly strategic spots. Thanks to him, we were also able to return to Beijing in the afternoon at a convenient time to visit the Forbidden City. TOP
