I don't think a lot of visitors realize what a great museum this is. We enjoyed seeing and reading the history of the carriages as well as the informational films. This was well worth our time and ticket price.
OMG, what can I say about this place. I think it is one of the most beautiful place i've seen. We didn't visit the palace itself we were only interested in the carriage museum. Note that ALL the carriages are the real ones used by the princess Sissi. We usually don't like museums and palaces because they use duplicates or remake pieces but not here, all real ones. There are also small informative videos all over to watch. I found these very helpful to understand the history behind it all and make the connection between the different Kings/princesses etc. I highly recommend to anyone who likes history and real artifacts, especially given the price is very reasonnable. We weren't familiar with the Emperess but this visit made us want to learn more and even watch the series on TV named Sissi and go visit the Imperial Crypt.
Good timing at 4 PM, because not so crowded inside. With the group of 30 people could not see the artefacts which the guide was talking about, because the hallways are very narrow.
Difficulty getting my ticket accepted at the entrance. After several verbal exchanges, they finally accepted my ticket
Stumbled across the imperial carriage museum whilst looking for things to do & glad that I did! What a fantastic museum looking back at the stunning carriages over the years. Absolutely fell in love with the whole museum & setting it was just wonderful. The pictures do not do it justice it’s a must visit.
A couple of hundred years ago if you were travelling, nothing would top doing so in these marvellous examples collected here. But that choice was only available to the very few, at the top echelons of society. Empress Maria Theresa’s carousel carriage is gilded and beautifully carved. In early 1743 she used it to great effect in Vienna to show any potential opponents that she was a formidable ruler. On the higher floor is a series of portraits of 24 horses owned by Empress Elizabeth.
We had limited time to visit the museum due to our own schedule constraints, but we’re very glad we decided to go in. The museum offers a self-guided tour with detailed explanations throughout the exhibit, which is great if you have more time to explore. Although we moved quickly and mainly focused on reading the signs next to each carriage, we still found the museum fascinating. The collection is impressive, and the displays are well-organized. Definitely worth a visit—even if you’re short on time!
Well worth visiting. Very interesting. We went late afternoon and it was not at all crowded. Allow an hour and a half. Beautiful carriages actually used by the Austrian Royal Family. Marvel at the skill of the carriage makers. Some very interesting and informative videos playing too.
I really enjoyed this visit as you don't often see so many carriages in one place. They were beautiful and looked alive. The relaxing environment was also an extra bonus. There weren't that many people around at noon. For us, this is excellent.
Fantastic tour of the royal carriage collection, from Sisi’s funeral hearse to Napoleon III crib a really wonderful side track of Schönbrunn palace
