I’ll start with the positives… I did not think it was fair to our tour guide to give the tour only 1 star. He was actually pretty good under the circumstance, and I think the tour would have been the highlight of our trip had things gone differently. The van seated our family of 4 well, the sights were beautiful and the restaurant the guide suggested to us was great. I really LOVED the boat cave tour (the only relief experienced during the entire trip). The other 2 stops were beautiful and great for pictures, but we just wanted to get in the van and go back to our air conditioned hotel in Lisbon. Now the negatives…There was a heat wave during our visit with record heat of 102 F in Lisbon and 90’s F in the Algarve area. I don’t expect (or believe) the tour guide/company to control nature and/or the weather. Heat waves happen. But, I do expect (especially for safety reasons) for an 8 hour, long distance tour to be operated in a vehicle with working air conditioning. Some legs of the driving were up to 2.5 hours of profusely sweating, sticking to the seats, constant water drinking, and our clothing completely soaked through (including the driver/guide). Getting out of the van was no relief. We asked the guide to turn the temperature down to the coolest setting (that of course did not work). We asked him to roll down the windows; that made it worse, and we could see him lagging and tiring from the heat. My husband asked the driver to make an extra stop so we could cool down in the air condition. It would have really been a great gesture if there were another vehicle available for our group size with working air conditioning, but this option was never offered. In the meantime, we tried going into businesses during stops (instead of seeing sites) to cool off for a few minutes, but the hours spent in the overheated van were just too much to abate the discomfort. What I expect from the tour companies I use on our trips, is safety being the top priority, back up plans in an emergency, and if your equipment is not in working condition for the tour, then please cancel (or at least contact us in advance to give us options). I expect them to anticipate situations, look at the weather, maintain the equipment and service it when need be. Had this been the middle of winter, then this likely would not have been a problem. But, this is unacceptable giving the conditions in which they subjected us to. My 72 year old mother was on this tour with us, and thank goodness all of us are in pretty good shape. Even so, we were overheated, exhausted and exacerbated the whole trip. I thought this excursion would be great (even with the heat wave); I thought we would be able to cool off in the van between sites. I was really looking forward to this being our last great excursion before returning home the next day, from our 3 week Spain & Portugal trip. But, instead this turned out to be the worst experience we’ve ever had on any of our trips. Thank goodness no one in our group had to go to the hospital, or even worse, died.
As a team, we are devastated that we were unable to deliver a service that met your expectations on our Algarve tour. The management and staff at Fantastic sincerely apologize for the disappointment you experienced. We understand the importance of your deception. Unfortunately, that day there was a heat wave during our visit to the Algarve, with record temperatures of 39°C. To summarize, the problem was a malfunction of the air conditioning system. The previous day there had also been a heat wave of 40º and the van's air conditioning was working perfectly; the breakdown occurred precisely on this tour to the Algarve, these are situations that we cannot control. What the driver said was that the air conditioning started malfunctioning right when they arrived in the Algarve, and it was impossible to replace the van. Our driver also reported that the return trip to Lisbon was very difficult without air conditioning. We, as a team, regret your dissatisfaction. Drive is a bit long (~2 1/2 hours each way) but an amazing day awaits... unbelievable cliffs, spectacular rock formations, a bright blue sea, memorable caves like you've probably never seen... Jorge was a wonderful guide for the day. We had a great day with him! And lunch on the beach (arranged by Jorge) was crazy delicious. We ran out of time to do everything we wanted, took so many amazing pictures... The Algarve region is a must do / don't miss on your Portugal trip... strong recommend!!

Rainy day but views very beautiful- George was very knowledgeable and guided us to a great lunch. The Algarve is a full of great beaches, incredible cliffs and rock formations.

Our guide, George was exceptional! It was a long day but worth every minute. The Algarve region is gorgeous and the boat ride along the coast and into the caves was breathtaking! We had a wonderful lunch on the beach before heading to Lagos for shopping and an ice cream :)

This was a great day out. It was disappointing that the driver was an hour & half late to pick us up. We were told that the vehicle had broken down but this turned out to be incorrect as it was as electric vehicle. Once we finally got underway we had a great day
