Our truffle-hunting experience with Matteo was absolutely wonderful and definitely one of the highlights of our Italy trip! Matteo gave us very clear instructions for getting from Rome by train. From there, he drove us into the beautiful mountains to begin our truffle hunt. Along the way, he was incredibly personable and knowledgeable, sharing so much about truffle hunting and the area. The forest was absolutely beautiful, and hunting with his two dogs, Wendy and Leilo, was so much fun. They were adorable and clearly loved their job! I was also very glad I chose to wear sneakers because we spent a good amount of time hiking through the forest as we searched for and collected truffles. After our hunt, Matteo took us back to his property, where we got to meet his other dogs. Then came one of the best parts of the experience: a beautiful lunch that was prepared for us right there on the property. Everything was absolutely delicious, and we left very full and very happy. We especially appreciated Matteo’s warmth and hospitality. He made the entire experience feel personal and authentic rather than like a typical tourist excursion. If you’re visiting Italy and have the opportunity to go truffle hunting with Matteo, do it! It was such a unique experience, and one that we’ll remember as one of the very best parts of our trip.

Am Amazing experience with Matteo and dogs Learning and watching the art of the Truffle hunt. The lunch was outrageous with 7 courses filled with the most delicious truffles. And plenty of good wine!

So far, this was the highlight of our trip. There was so much to do. During the Van ride out to the truffle hunting area, our guide gave us a lot of information on the truffle, hunting dogs and truffle hunting in general. They were experts and extremely knowledgeable about truffle hunting. After that, we were treated to a tour of a hilltop monastery where the popes go for contemplation and prayer. It was really special with amazing views and included a cave pilgrimage site. We were then driven to the family Estate, which was homie and comfortable. The seven course lunch was delicious and included wine. The staff was very friendly, and I have already recommended it to other family members who plan to visit Rome.

This experience was absolutely incredible. Matteo himself was unfortunately sick the day we went, but his father Furio and his business partner (also Matteo) were fantastic guides and storytellers. We learned a lot about the world of truffle hunting from them (why dogs and not pigs? How do you know where to go? How cutthroat is the truffle hunting competition?). Our tour of 4 couples had a fantastic time on the mountain seeing the dogs at work with Furio, and after stopping for some breathtaking views at a nearby monastery we had an amazing meal around the table at Furio’s house in the countryside. Everything was made and sourced locally, from delicious cheeses from a neighbor’s cows to wines from Furio’s wine presses and liqueurs from plants and fruits off the mountain, and of course the truffles that had been harvested by the dogs. In all an amazing experience, and one of the best we had in our entire trip to Italy!

Spent the day with the Matteo Truffle Team and it was our favorite excursion of the entire trip. They picked us up at the train station and took us to the truffle hunt location. It was amazing watching them and the dogs hunt for truffles. They took us back to their home and the 7-course meal was even more amazing. Their hospitality and friendliness made you feel as if you were a part of the family. It was and all-around spectacular excursion and we would highly, highly recommend it.

Very cool experience! Mateo meets us at the metro exit and takes us to the forest to hunt for the truffles. The protagonists were Wendy and Lelo, two super loving puppies! Then we go to Mateo's house, where he serves us the plates with truffles, all great! Includes white and red wines at will. It was very worth the experience. I urge everyone to go to Rome. The tour begins at 10:30 and ends at 4:30.

Took Matteo on a personalized tour for our family, hunting for truffles. There were three children among us, the children became instant friends with the dogs. Especially our eldest daughter was running with Wendy, and they picked a lot of truffles. It was truly fascinating for our family and will always be remembered for us. After at Villa Matteo with his assistant made us 7 delicious truffle dishes that we found, it was very delicious. The children were even allowed to participate in cooking. Then we bought delicious olive oil, honey and truffle, salt and T-shirts from Matteo's store. It was an incredible, amazing experience for us. I sincerely suggest you go truffle hunting with Matteo.

Very pleasant welcome for this original activity. Following the dogs in the forest, going off the beaten path, and watching the dogs flush out the truffles. Then a delicious meal with truffles and local products.

My wife and i had the good fortune of spending a day with Matteo for a magical day filled with beautiful nature, fascinating conversations on Truffles as well as what makes the ones around Rome so very special. Matteo was so much fun to travel with as he derives as much pleasure from his guests experiences as the guests do themselves. This is not a job for Matteo, but a life's calling, a mission to meet and connect with people from all over the world, all while engaged in work that he clearly finds to be meaningful. After a few hours spent in nature with Matteo and his special dogs, we went back to his home for what was one of the best meals we had in our whole visit to Italy. The setting was amazing and the food experience was nothing less than a culinary adventure and a chef's challenge of ensuring that every dish was made with fresh truffles. The bar was set high and Matteo's team did not disappoint. When it was all done, our whole group was full not only from amazing cuisine, but an afternoon spent enjoying the pleasures of slow-served food that was real, fresh and healthy. They also sell a full array of truffle products that are an absolute must, not just for their inherent quality but, more so because the cost of the same products in Rome cost much, much more. We are already looking forward to coming back again in a different season as the menue changes with the seasons as do the truffles themselves. I can't recommend Matteo highly enough.
