Fabulous 4 days, great guides and wonderful experiences. They transported us and our luggage seamlessly. Most tour groups were small, 4 - 6 people total in the group and vans were very comfortable with very good drivers. I thought the 4 days had to be consecutive days, but it turns out that was not the case as we joined 1 day tours that were happening in each location. Had I realized that was the situation, I probably would have stayed in Tateyama for 2 nights instead of just the 1 night before continuing touring. Highly recommend this company and all the guides

Unforgettable Nagano Experience – Highly Recommend Lin! Our day in Nagano was absolutely perfect. We started at the stunning Zenko-ji Temple, which felt deeply spiritual and peaceful. Afterward, we enjoyed a delicious, authentic shabu-shabu lunch at a local restaurant—it was the perfect way to warm up before our afternoon adventure  Visiting the Snow Monkey Park was an unforgettable highlight, featuring close-up views of the animals. Expertly organized, the day featured comfortable transport and a wonderful, informative guide  History, High Peaks, and a Surprise Bear Sighting! We are currently on Day 2 of a three-day tour through Nagano, and it has been absolutely spectacular. After an amazing first day at Zenko-ji, our second day with our guide, Jens, was equally unforgettable. We started at Matsumoto Castle, which was an incredible walk through Japanese history. Jens was on time, ready to roll, and provided so much informative context that made the ancient "Black Crow" castle truly come to life. Next, we headed into the Northern Japanese Alps to Kamikochi National Park. Simply stunning! We’ve traveled extensively and visited many National Parks around the world, but Kamikochi is easily near the top of our list. Jens led us on a hike along the trails; while a bit rocky, it was very manageable for us as seniors. We were surrounded by crystal-clear lakes and streams, with snowy, towering mountains as our backdrop. The day was full of excitement—we saw more snow monkeys, experienced two mild earthquakes, and even had a black bear sighting! It was a perfect, adventurous day that we will never forget. A Journey Through Time in Takayama and Shirakawa-go. Our final day was a beautiful step back into Japan’s past. We traveled to Takayama to visit Takayama Jinya, the only surviving Edo-period government office in the country. It was an enlightening experience, offering a fascinating look at the administrative and daily life of that era—from the courtroom to the living quarters. Next, we visited the Shirakawa-go UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a truly charming village that feels lost in time, with its iconic thatched-roof homes still lived in and seamlessly interspersed with local shops and restaurants. The scenery and architecture were simply breathtaking. A special thank you to our guide, Florentina, who led us on this final leg. She was exceptionally kind, warm, and inclusive, ensuring everyone felt welcome and part of the experience. It was the perfect way to wrap up a great three-day tour!

It was my first time taking a guided tour in Japan and I was hesitant at first, since I imagined there would be a large group and it would feel impersonal, but boy was I wrong! Since I was traveling with my brother and mother; having transport, reservations & local knowledge taken care of, it was an absolute blessing - especially when organizing a trip with newcomers to Japan. The description of this tour is definitely understated; the included lunch on the first day exceeded our expectations by a mile, whilst the knowledge and attention from the various guides at each step was excellent. Our entire group felt satisfied that we'd experienced the next level of immersion into Japan. Definitely recommended for those who have visited the major cities on the Golden Route previously, or who prefer a more rural & scenic trip. We were spoiled with a multitude of autumnal colors - and with some tips from Yuma - I was able to find the keys to paradise. There was a minor miscommunication about the pickup time on the second day, however the way it was handled by the tour company was outstanding. They had already organized a contingency for us and we were able to rejoin the group later, so we didn't miss out on anything. The kindness & professionalism shown by all of the staff, drivers & guides at this company were in keeping with the level of service and care which one would expect from a Japanese operation. I believe the itinerary & pick-up instructions will be more detailed in future updates here, but I recommend to reach out and confirm all the specific times before setting off. I'd especially like to thank Yuma - for his good humor and consideration, Shawn - for his quick thinking and patience, Devin - for sharing some delightful nuggets from his vast knowledge of Japanese history, Hemi - for his entertaining banter and caring attitude, and Ellie - for her charming persona and for customizing our leg of the tour in Kanazawa to suit our group's preferences. Each of our guides were superb, and are an precious asset to their company. Also, the drivers all did a great job in keeping us safe and ferrying us between destinations. We had a great time, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend ANY of the other tours that are conducted by Machinovate, based on our wonderful experience with them.

We enjoyed our 4 day tour. Yuma our Nagano guide was fabulous and informative. Day 2 with Taka was also fabous. He is very engaging and informative and made sure our transfer to Takayama was a smooth one. Day 3 with Joshy to the village og Shirawa-go was most enjoyable and informative and ensured our transfer to Kanazawa went smoothly. Day w 4 with Akira was exceptional. She was very informative, friendly and fun.

What a brilliant way to explore central Japan! We were planning to do it all on our own by train, and then I discovered this 4-day trip which covered all the places we wanted to go, and included transport between towns. We squeezed it in between 4 days on our own in Tokyo and another 4 in Kyoto, for a perfect 2 week vacation. I contacted Devin at Snow Monkey Tours and discovered I could customize the experience and link the individual day trips we wanted, so we ended up with an itinerary that included two nights in Matsumoto with a hike on the Nakasendo Trail on day 1, a visit to the Mastumoto Castle, Frog Street and Kamikochi on day 2, transfer to Takayama and a visit to Shirakawa-Go on day 3, and a full day walking tour of Kanazawa on Day 4. Each tour was wonderful, and no bigger than 8 participants. Our Takayama/Shirakawa-go day was a private tour. Our guides, including Sijung, Hemi and Farida were excellent. They were kind, friendly, interesting, and provided great insight. The transportation, by minibus, was clean and punctual. The tours were well paced and covered beautiful locations. We were even lucky enough to see moneys on the trail in Kamikochi--thankfully no bears though. Thank you Snow Monkey Resorts!

We had a fabulous experience with Snow Monkey Resorts. We only had 4 days in Central Japan and were having difficulty finding an activity that suited our needs - fortunately we discovered Snow Monkey and they sure delivered beyond our expectations. Kevin at their head office was particularly helpful and assisted us at the planning stage swap out day one for their 1 day Nakasendo Walk. Snow Monkey's model of guests choosing their own accommodation each evening and then picking up people in the morning from the local train station worked a treat. The buses each day and drivers were all exceptional and the guides too were all excellent. Knowledgeable and engaging. Each day was filled with history, nature, culture and beauty. Our only suggestion for guests is to book your restaurants each evening ahead of time because the really good one in Central Japan will be booked out. We will be using them again for sure on our next trip to Japan!!

The tour was very well organised and the communication and customer care was excellent. The guides went out of their way to help us and they were Endo, Devon, Yuko and Adeline. All had excellent historical knowledge and that made all the difference to the Alpine route tour and the 4 day tour to Nagano,Takamaya, Kanazawa including the snow monkey park, matsoumo castle, the shrines and temples which were wonderful and a must to truly experience and understand the Japanese culture. The tour busses were punctual and the drivers took us safely at all times. I would like to thank Snow monkey resorts for all their effort in making the tour so comfortable and smooth. I would most certainly recommend the tours and particularly the Snow monkey resorts to my friends and family.
