Surprise $150 extra fee. Read the fine print
There is a $150 charge that is buried under “What’s Included” that you have to click on to see. In addition, in the “Off Shore Fishing” part of our trip we caught not one thing.

Thank you for your feedback. We do want to clarify something important for anyone considering booking a Key West private fishing charter with us.
The $150 fuel surcharge is disclosed in the booking information under “What’s Not Included” before the reservation is made. It is not a charge that we add unexpectedly after the trip. We make this information available so guests can review the full cost of their Key West fishing charter before completing their booking.
Operating a 36-foot Hatteras for an offshore fishing trip requires a significant amount of marine fuel, and with today's fuel costs, the surcharge helps cover a portion of that expense. We understand that nobody likes additional fees, which is exactly why we disclose it in the booking details.
We encourage every guest to review the trip description, what's included, what's not included, cancellation policies, and other booking information before confirming a reservation. We certainly don't want someone to feel surprised by something that was disclosed prior to booking.
As for the fishing, we're sorry the offshore portion of your 4-hour Key West fishing charter wasn't productive. Fishing can change dramatically from one day—or even one hour—to the next. Our captain and mate will always work to find fish, but no charter can guarantee a catch.

Good charter, but don't fall for the Gray's Taxidermy scam!!!
The all day fishing trip was good. We caught lots of Mahi Mahi. I recommend this outfit but I do wish they didn't allow the individual captains to put on a sales pitch to get a replica mount of your fish from Gray's Taxidermy. My son caught a 49" Mahi Mahi that day and as soon as he got it in the boat, the first mate started the sales pitch that he really needs to get a mount of it from Gray's Taxidermy. Unfortunately we fell for the pitch. The captain told us the total cost for the mount would be $888 shipped to our home in NC, and since we were caught up in the moment, I gave the captain our credit card number and paid $354 as the deposit. Well a few days after we returned home, I received the full bill from Gray's Taxidermy. It was over $1300!! I immediately contacted
Gray's and told them that is not what we were told on the dock and I wasn't going to pay that much for a replica fish and asked for my deposit $$ back. They told me to pound salt and refused to refund me. This is a scam as they do this all of the time. They actually have a department set up in the business to deal with credit card charge backs. Your deposit is split beween Gray's Taxidermy, the captain and the first mate of the boat! Again, a good charter experience but the deal with the Gray's Taxidermy left a bad memory on an otherwise good day. We would not have even considered do this if it was not for the captain and first mate feeding us the sales pitch!

We’re genuinely sorry to hear about your disappointment regarding the mount process. While we do occasionally refer interested guests to Gray’s Taxidermy for replica mounts, we want to be clear that this is a completely optional, third-party service, and pricing—including shipping—comes directly from their team. Unfortunately, due to variable shipping costs by location, we are not able to guarantee final pricing at the time of the deposit, and this is explained in the form signed during the order process.
That said, we understand how frustrating this situation must feel. We never want a moment that should be celebratory to leave a bad impression. We’ve taken your concerns seriously and will review how these conversations are handled going forward to ensure everything remains as transparent as possible.
We appreciate your recommendation of our charter itself, and we’d love the opportunity to have you back on board for a future trip—hopefully with only great memories from start to finish.

Awesome Trip
Arrived at 6:30 for 7:00 am departure and Capt. AJ and Shaun were ready roll. The day we went the wind was non existent which was beautiful for riding out on water but made fishing a bit of a challenge. We booked an 8 hr trip but the Capt. asked of we could stay a little longer because we were fishing hard and he wanted us to have a good trip, which we did….ended up with a pretty good catch of Mahi, but had to run approximately 30 miles out. I will say Capt. AJ and Shaun are absolutely awesome folks. They were very helpful and educational as well as both having great personalities and a joy to be around. Personally I would highly recommend them and if at all possible do the 8 hr trip.

The thrill of the catch!
It was an amazing day at sea! Captain Chris was very attentive to everyone on board. The fish were not biting as much as we hoped on the day we went out but Chris & Will made it the best experience they possibly could. We caught some Bonita and very large Amberjack. The thrill of the catch was worth it! Highly recommend!!

A real fisherman's charter, not a tourist boat.
We have chartered with Cowboy about 5 or 6 times over the last 15 years. More often than not Mark "The Shark" the owner skippered for us but not always. In every case though, the charter was a true fisherman's charter. By that I mean they worked hard and skillfully to put us on fish and help us refine our fishing technique. If you just want a shiny new boat to go for a ride on, then Cowboy may not be your favourite.
We just had a 3/4 day trip with them again on May 15th, 2024. Mark and John the mate worked hard and employed experience, local knowledge and networking with other boat captains to find and catch fish. Our final score on this trip was 4 Bonito, 1 Barracuda, 3 Mahi and 1 Wahoo. If you want a hard-working, skilled and experienced crew to fish with, they have always been a good charter for us.

Three great private charters!
I booked three trips for clients. Capt AJ and mate Cole (two trips) and Capt Nels and mate Justin (one trip) were excellent. They made my guests feel welcome and at ease. They interacted with my guests in a positive and professional manner. Each of my guests had significant and quality time on the rods. They helped create great memories. While it was a primarily a fishing trip for my guests, it was still a business outing for me and the team made me look great. Many thanks to Michelle for coordinating lunches and additional beverages.
