The guides were very friendly and great at getting us onto the fish. We caught mahi mahi, sailfish, red snapper and yellow fin tuna. It was a great day and we would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fishing.
We had an absolutely incredible experience on our private fishing charter in Costa Rica. From the moment we stepped on the boat, the captain David and crew were outstanding—professional, attentive, and genuinely great with our kids, which made the whole trip even more enjoyable for our family. They had everything perfectly prepared and ready to go, with drinks and snacks on board and a smooth, on-time departure. The crew worked hard the entire trip, constantly adjusting and making sure we had the best chance at success. We were able to jig and troll, which kept things exciting and hands-on. And the fishing did not disappoint—we caught grouper, tilefish, and the highlight of the day: an incredible sailfish! Watching that sailfish come in was something we’ll never forget. This was more than just a fishing trip—it was a full experience. If you’re considering a charter in Costa Rica, this is the one you want. Highly recommend

Went on a 3/4 day fishing charter on the 35' Cabo Express. We had a team of 3 helping us catch sailfish, marlin, and many other fish. The two anglers were great in helping us get 4 fish on the line with only one catch. Our son fish's off Cape Cod in the summer and has never expereniced deep sea fishing. This crew made his trip so memorable. We highly recommend this group.

Thank you again for choosing our locally owned Tamarindo fishing charter We would love to have you back on board anytime. 🚤
Great experience for our family The crew was a lot of fun and very accommodating The boat was very comfortable too with air conditioning in the cabin area The captain and all of the crew were knowledgeable about fishing and worked very hard to put us on the fish.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! 😊 We’re truly happy to hear that your family had a great time on board and that the crew made the experience fun and accommodating. Comfort is very important to us, so we’re glad you enjoyed the boat and the air-conditioned cabin as well. Our captain and crew are passionate about fishing and always work hard to give our guests the best possible day on the water, so your kind words mean a lot to us. 🎣 We hope to welcome you and your family back for another adventure in Tamarindo soon!
My experience wasn’t that great, boat smelled like diesel fuel, black smoke coming out in excess when the engine was on throttle. When they described as new, I now realize it was new to them. As there was window vents that wouldn’t not open, making it hotter than it need to be. The side rails cushions were all tore up. As far as the fishing goes, being completely skunked happens, but not common for a guide. I didn’t see a lot of traffic, which I wonder left me wondering about the experience. I have been on a lot of fishing adventures and have boats, this was not great.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are genuinely sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. This is the first time we receive comments like this about our 35’ Cabo Express Chasin’ Fins, and we take every review seriously. Our boat is one of the newest-year vessels operating in Tamarindo, and since purchasing it 6 months ago, we’ve received only 5 star feedback regarding comfort and performance. That said, boats in Costa Rica go out every single day, and sometimes maintenance items appear sooner due to the strong sun and constant use. • Regarding the side rail cushions: We are already waiting for the new replacement rail cushions to arrive. All other cushions that are inside for the seats are perfectly fine. The intense Costa Rican sun and daily operation naturally cause wear faster than in other regions marine upholstery typically needs replacement every 1–2 years here. • Regarding the windows/ventilation: The vents can be opened. In fact, half of them were open during your trip. The ones on the wind-facing side stayed closed to prevent guests from getting sprayed by salty water, as wind direction that day was pushing waves directly into the cabin. This does not happen year-round, but on windy days we prioritize passenger comfort and safety. • Regarding the diesel smell or smoke: Our engines were fully serviced before the trip. Chasin’ Fins is a diesel boat, and a light diesel smell is normal on any diesel-powered vessel. A short burst of black smoke when the boat accelerates is also standard behavior for diesel engines and usually lasts only a couple of minutes before clearing. Even so, we have already checked with our mechanic to ensure everything continues to run perfectly. As for the fishing, even the most experienced captains know that slow days can happen, and on that particular date all boats in the area experienced the same conditions. We understand this is disappointing, especially for anglers excited for a great day on the water. While we typically have excellent catch days, fishing remains unpredictable by nature. To future clients reading this: We invite you to look through our many 5 star reviews, photos, and videos. Our team operates daily with passion and experience, and this review does not reflect the standard of service we are known for. We appreciate your honesty and the opportunity to improve. Thank you again for your feedback. We are committed to delivering exceptional fishing experiences to all our guests.
Unfortunately there is no choice between “average and very good”. We had a great day with Max and David. Very kind and competent. Unfortunately we had no grips or “touches”. On the other hand it was a very interesting boat tour, we sailed among hundreds of dolphins. A little expensive for no takes.
We had a wonderful time on blue runner II, the captain and first mate were very knowledgeable, kind and spoke English very well. We went for 3/4 day and trolled offshore the entire day and had a great time we got to see dolphins, whales, and many sea turtles. Unfortunately we didn’t get a bite all day but that’s fishing. We had a great time and would recommend to everyone.
We had a wonderful outing!! Very nice peach! Thanks to David and Max who offered us impeccable service! We recommend it without hesitation!
David, the Captain, was great. We caught a sailfish early on in the day and a bunch of yellow fin tuna later in the afternoon. David extended the day by at least an hour which allowed us to get into the tuna.
