Bus tour route included important sites in the city, sadly the audio descriptions were not always in time to the locations we passed. It is appreciated that with pre recorded audio, there will be times when a description does not fit the feature it is describing.

Mixed experience. We booked the 2 day pass 3 in 1 tour. For two consecutive days had to wait between 45 and 50 minutes for the bus to turn up from bus stop 23 (between 10am and 11 am approx) to take us into Funchal. It was our understanding buses every 30 mins during AM. So a frustrating start each day. We complained to the agent in Funchal and were told this is not possible so there is clearly a disconnect here. On the plus side when the bus did turn up it was OK. The tour to Cabo Girao was excellent and the driver of the smaller bus was very helpful indeed (changed to smaller bus at Camara de Lobos). We did not use the audio guide. Weather was good and sat in the open top area of the bus for some great views.

Long wait times. Narrative and driver were not synced. Buying tickets online was confusing. Hop on Hop Bus would have been a better choice!

The route was nice and covered most of Funchal and nearby villages. Sadly the supplied audio guide didn’t meet expectations. The guided audio primarily played music and when the audio guide actually provided some information it was out of sync with the location. Since we’re multilingual we tried different audio tracks but all were equally bad. Additionally the audio ports didn’t work at all seats and when pointed out to staff it was shrugged at and ignored. In summary. If you want to see a nice scenery and you’re not interested in learning anything about the scenery this trip is for you. Otherwise try the red buses in Funchal, it can’t be worse.

When a cruise ship is in port, the first bus is completely full because that's where the tour starts in port. In this case, 2 buses should be used early in parallel. Over the course of the day, it normalizes.

This has a good set of a fixed routes in and around Funchal, but one has to be mindful if using this to try to see everything on a cruise call to this port. If not on a cruise, then this is a very nice setup and you could augment it with the city transit system and taxis and ride shares as needed. The main route does not go near the 2 big botanical gardens up on hillsides with very narrow streets. There is an interlocking route that goes to Cabo Girao. One would have to start very early, take in the high point in Funchal, and quickly move westward on to Camara de Lobos, and also take the short hop to Cabo Girao. The fact that I started a little late and went up to the paid municipal gardens did not allow me enough time to get way out west from Funchal. I would do those things first ... and then see the big gardens, if time allows, before your ship leaves because there are always taxis and rideshares available from the exits to the big hillside and they're not that far from the port, relatively speaking. If your interests are the paid gardens, the sky gondola, and the wicker basket ride, along with the center of town, there might be a lot of the routing that you won't be using. In short, if you are a cruise passenger, really consider what your priorities are. If you are staying for a while, then this is a really nice route system that you could easily augment with other affordable means to get up to the hillside points of interest.

The guided tour is very interesting and covers a great route. The passage between each bus is a little long in the afternoon.
