This was an outstanding experience, we learned so much about the history of China Towns across the world along with a comprehensive history of local Chinese Culture and history. The biggest highlight was making dumplings for a fabulous dinner! We highly recommend it! Bill & Karen from New Jersey

Casual stroll through historic Chinatown with all the good and bad. Great facility, food and instruction.
The description is inaccurate - it was a 2.5 hour tour followed by a 30 minute dumpling session where all we did was fold 5 dumpling each. We were looking for a full hands-on cooking class (as the description promises), and this experience failed to deliver. If you want a tour and a light-touch food experience, this might be a good fit. But it's not a cooking class and shouldn't be advertised as such. Viator refuses to do anything about situations like this, so it's hard to trust anything this site offers after being so misled with this particular tour.

We spoke with your host in detail following your experience. The Chinatown portion is typically approximately one hour and includes historical and cultural insights as well as food stops, followed by a hands-on dumpling-making session where guests learn to fill and fold dumplings. The host then cooks the dumplings and serves them as part of a full meal. That said, we understand from your feedback that you expected a more extensive cooking class with greater hands-on involvement. We have since clarified the description to make the format and level of participation more explicit so future guests can better understand what to expect before booking. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and are sorry the experience was not what you had envisioned.
Judy was amazing, so knowledgeable and sensitive to who we are and what we care about so that our experience was truly personalized! We learned and experienced a great deal about the history and the current life of Chinatown. It was a wonderful (and tasty) experience as a family.
Julie is a brilliant guide and cook. She has a wealth of knowledge about China Towns across the world and she took us on a trip around them on her iPad. The walking tour round the local China Town was eye opening and we learned so much and very much enjoyed the amazing spring rolls she picked up from the best bakery outside of Hong Kong. The dumplings we made were also delicious and fun to make. This isn’t a cheap experience but Julie puts money back into the community and we can see she is highly respected and liked by all so well worth it. Thoroughly recommended.
Was so pleasantly surprised by the experience! We had a wonderful time and the instructor is amazing! We toured China Town then returned to a closed for the day coffee shop to make the dumplings. Everything was so well done and organized. The dumplings were delicious. I would absolutely recommend this victor activity.
You learn a lot about the history of the area. Judy was extremely knowledgeable, friendly , and caring. After learning about the "neighborhood" we ended up learning how to make dumplings and got to eat them!

We did the Chinatown tour and dumpling making class with Judy and it was honestly a wonderful experience. We met at a coffee shop to start off the tour and Judy gave us an overview of the history of Vancouver Chinatown before we started walking. Unexpectedly, we ended up being the only folks on the tour that day, so we had essentially a private tour, which was great. We walked few blocks around the commercial area and went into various shops and markets, where Judy seemed to know literally everyone. We went to a lovely Chinese tea shop where they did a tasting with us, and also popped into a delicious dim sum shop to get steam buns and spring rolls. At the end of the tour, we went into another local restaurant to make dumplings – Judy had pre-made 2 yummy fillings and we learned how to fold the dumplings in a traditional way before cooking them and having them for lunch. It was educational, entertaining, a little bit active, and an afternoon well spent. We'd originally booked another Chinatown tour since we thought this experience would be more of a dumpling making class than tour, but we ended up cancelling the other tour since this experience was so informative!

This is a fantastic hidden gem. Judy has a fantastic knowledge of and a commitment to the chinese community. Vast amount of historical facts of the area given during a walking tour of Chinatown. She knows everyone. She taught us to make dumplings (vegetable, chicken and lamb), which we ate. Highly recommend this event and would take it again.
