An enjoyable, relaxing punting boat cruise down the river with 01 stopover at a house by the river where a warm 74 year old lady demonstrated the use of coconut husks & leaves. A skill that she has perfected her entire life..
She also makes & sells Cassava chips..the Cassava coming from her garden. The driver Shah Jahan, guide Meera & the 2 boatmen were all lovely, warm & friendly...
Meera is very knowledgeable about the birds & all that grow in the river. Although I wish there were more "adventures" to explore, I was quite happy with the arranged programme. It would be good for those who wants a relaxing day in the backwaters. The whole thing lasted about 3 hours although the programme stated "whole day". A nice vegetarian meal (lunch) was included, after which the driver sent me back to my pickup point. Thanks to Stanley Wilson ( the tour operator) for not cancelling the trip although I was the only participant on that day.
I would suggest a detailed itinerary for future trips. I went with an open mind, not knowing what to expect. A detailed itinerary for all trips would be essential.

Beautiful backwater trip
A truly wonderful well organised
awe inspiring day out.
Great value for money including a really knowledgeable guide who took us through each activity explaining in depth all about the places visited , the wildlife as we encountered it , the local traditions and superstitions , as well as the art of traditional rope making .
The boatmen on the intimate beautiful paddle boat and the canoe worked really hard to ensure a smooth and safe passage through scenic routes where we saw a kingfisher, a heron, a cormorant, some Brahmini kites as well as other flora and fauna . We were well looked after all day long and enjoyed a delicious authentic banana leaf meal with plenty of drinks too during the day as well as the luxury of an a/c car to and from the pick up location ..

Great tour!
We very much enjoyed the boat trip into the backwaters. The journey involves two boats, a larger covered canoe with armchairs and a smaller uncovered canoe with bench seating. Both canoes are operated by punters (one in the front and one in the back). After the one hour drive to the canoes, we boarded the large canoe for a leisurely and lovely ride along the backwaters to a small village. There they demonstrate how coconut coir is turned into rope. After that demonstration, we boarded the small canoe for a trip into the mangroves. After that, we got back onto the large canoe and went back to where we had started. We had a lovely lunch there, which was included. Our guide, Meera, was very informative and knowledgeable. I really appreciated that we were not pushed to buy anything at the local village. The only thing they offered for sale were cassava chips , which were lovely. They only hiccup we had was a late pickup from our hotel as the driver was waiting at the wrong hotel. Normally, they ask that you meet at their office on Princess Street or at the Crowne Plaza. But because we were the only ones on the tour, they said they would pick us up at our hotel. The irony is that our hotel was on Princess Street only a few doors down from their office. But somehow they got the name of the hotel mixed up. In any event, once I sent a WhatsApp message it got resolved fairly quickly.

First of all, please accept my sincere apologies for the mistake with your hotel pickup. This was entirely my fault, as I had given the driver the wrong hotel name. I am especially sorry because your hotel was just a few doors away from our office on Princess Street! I am glad that once you contacted us on WhatsApp, we were able to resolve the confusion quickly. We will certainly be more careful with pickup details in the future.

“More than a Backwater Cruise — A Journey into Kerala’s Living Traditions”
My backwater experience in Vaikom was truly unforgettable. It was not just a boat ride, but a beautiful journey into Kerala’s nature, village life, culture, and traditions.
A special mention to my guide, Ms. Meera, whose warmth, knowledge, and wonderful storytelling made the experience even more meaningful. She explained the local culture and traditions so naturally, making me feel connected to the village and its people. The pickup driver Firoz was nice and talked informative.
The boatmen, Babu and Chandran, were very courteous, friendly, and experienced. They ensured a smooth, safe, and enjoyable journey through the peaceful backwaters.
The traditional village activities were one of the biggest highlights. I got to see the traditional coir-making process by Omanamma from processing coconut husks to spinning and making coir rope. Then I also witnessed thatch-making, mat weaving-traditional crafts that are slowly disappearing from modern life.
It was especially wonderful to see these old-generation activities being preserved. I was very happy to see them because I remember seeing similar activities when I was a child. It brought back many beautiful childhood memories and made the experience even more special.
I strongly feel that these traditional skills and knowledge should be preserved and passed on to the younger generation, so that these beautiful traditions do not disappear.
Then they take me in an open country boat through a hidden gem- which is a natural canal which gave an experience to feel the nature where we can hear the sounds of birds, cicades and we can see lot of dragon flies. It is a Heaven😊
The traditional Kerala food served during the visit was delicious! Overall, this was a wonderful opportunity to experience the real Kerala beyond the usual tourist attractions.
A highly recommended experience for anyone who wants to discover Kerala’s backwaters, village life, traditional crafts, food, and warm hospitality.

A lovely backwater ride experience!
I had a wonderful experience with this tour! I highly recommend this tour.
I directly called Stanley Wilson and he was very helpful booked a tour for 3 people for 6k INR. He helped and guided me all.
On the day Ubaid, you can book from him too. He picked from Wilson tour to the backwaters place via sedan. He was friendly and nice.
Then comes the tour, amazing experience! Very nice boat . Coir making, a perfect time spent on backwaters. I took Guide Grishma/Greeshma.
I still remember her name even after few days of the tour, it’s been a week I took the tour and I’m writing review today! Still I remember because she explained and provided all details during the experience! Her knowledge is incredible.
Definitely would archive this tour from this operator and lovely experience! I’m sure one will enjoy this tour experience! Highly recommended!

Beautiful experience
Greeshma was the best guide for this tour ! She is passionate and joyful !
The lake backwaters are beautiful and peaceful, between fruit trees, giant coconut trees, different kinds of birds and artisanal fishing, just magical.
