This was a trip 40 years in the bucket list and Onestop Cultural Tours Jamaica made it far, far better than we'd hoped. We gave Marie a list of expected music sites - The Bunny Lee Museum, Jamaica Music Museum, The Peter Tosh Museum, etc. - and a longer list of obscure places (record shops, Alpha Music School, sound system yards and the sites of long-gone studios.) Over 3 full days, we crisscrossed Kingston, spending ample time to really enjoy every experience. Marie and Donovan were the perfect traveling companions, with insider knowledge and a broader cultural perspective that added context to every place we visited. Whether we were strolling down mural-filled streets, tracking down the best meat patty, getting an inside look at the cricket stadium, meeting Striker Lee Jr, and - just by chance - Stephen Marley, Marie and Donovan were clearly enjoying their time as much as we were. They also made many recommendations of great things to do on our own after the tours. Odds are you won't be going to Kingston every year, so work with Onestop Cultural Tours and see what this amazing city really has to offer.
Hi Charles, It was our absolute pleasure! The time we spent together and the places we visited were fantastic. From our first exchange of emails in February, to finally meeting you both was exhilarating. Our 3-day 'Jamaican Music History Tour of Kingston' was the best! Along with our 'Tour of Port Royal. It definitely exceeded our expectations. We appreciate your detailed review as it helps travelers make informed choices and ensure we maintain the highest quality of service. Thank you also for the spontaneous 'vlogs' I requested from you - they were awesome! All the best to you and Rose.
It's an incredible tour for any music lover. An unforgettable and educational experience in Jamaica that allowed me to learn so much about the country and its culture. Educational and very fun. I recommend it 100%.
Hi Paula Thank you for your review. We had a fantastic experience touring Kingston as a as a group, visiting Tuff Gong International, Trench Town, Mitchie's Records on Orange Street and Bob Marley Museum. I was pleased you made the most of your time in Kingston, visiting Crab Circle, Water Lane Murals, Kingston Night Market and Bunny Lee Museum. You really must come back again sometime soon.
I had the pleasure of booking the musical tour with Marie and it was absolutely worth every penny. I highly recommend visiting the Mitchie record store it’s a must see. I also got to visit the Bob Marley Museum and the Tuff Gong recording studio. This tour was incredibly educational and culturally rich and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. Thank you for creating such a memorable experience in Jamaica💛💚♥️
Hi April Thank you for your review. We had such a great time touring as a group, learning about our rich history, culture, music and Bob Marley. You really must visit Kingston again in the future as there is so much to explore, from Craighton Estate Blue Mountain, Port Royal and the old Spanish Town. Who knows we may even travel on public transport lol.
We had an amazing day with Marie and Donovan on a personalized and customized version of this tour. We hit many of the included spots as well as some local record shops and historic reggae music sites. The museum tours were educational and very well done with reverence to the reggae artists and culture. It was clear that Marie and Donovan have a deep love and appreciation for Kingston and want to share an authentic experience with their guests, and make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. Marie also kept us on a tight schedule to ensure we saw everything we wanted while being mindful of our time constraints. Ask questions and ask for additional recommendations for food, music, and entertainment and I'm sure they will point you in the right direction, highlighting local gems you may not otherwise know about. By the end of our tour we felt like we had made quick new friends that we wouldn't hesitate to call up on a return visit. Thank you Marie and Donovan for a fantastic day!
Hi Michael and Amanda, Thank you so much - your review means a lot to us. We had the best time touring Kingston, visiting record shops, museums, and Trench Town. I especially loved the fact that we walked around Downtown Kingston in an attempt to visit Randy's 17 North Parade and were able to capture the essence of Orange Street (formerly Beat Street) with its many murals, notice boards and old shop signs. I appreciated the opportunity to visit Alpha School for their evening training session and will definitely spread the world. Enjoy the remainder of your time in Jamaica. Thank you again!!
Thank you Marie and Donovan for a wonderful day spent exploring and discovering the history of Jamaican music. While most people come to Jamaica to soak in the sun and listen to and learn more about Bob Marley, our one day customized tour provided an opportunity to greatly enhance our knowledge of Jamaican music by taking us to the roots of where it all began, with an excellent and highly recommended tour of the Bunny Lee Museum and Recording studio, then a trip to Trench Town and several visits to local record stores in Kingston before ending the tour at Bob Marley’s house. Marie’s enthusiasm and her genuine love of Jamaican culture and music did not go unnoticed. We really got an appreciation and understanding of the artists, producers and other key people who were instrumental and influential in developing and creating the music of Jamaica from the beginning. During the interactive tour of the Bob Marley house we discovered no matter what you think you know about Bob Marley you will be blown away by what you don’t know. An added bonus for us was meeting one of the Marley’s while strolling the grounds. From a musical perspective and cultural experience this tour is a must! I would be remiss not to mention our driver Donovan whose personality, kindness and friendliness greatly added to the tour. Matthew and Winsome Vancouver, Canada
Hi Matthew and Winsome, Thank you! Your kind words are greatly appreciated. Donovan and I really enjoyed touring Kingston with you all and showcasing our rich musical history and culture. We are pleased you enjoyed the Bunny Lee Museum, Bob Marley Museum, visiting record shops and briefly visiting Trench Town - the birthplace of reggae music. We look forward to welcoming you back to Kingston for another adventure soon. Enjoy your remaining time in Jamaica
We spent the day with Onestop Cultural Tours Jamaica immersed in music and culture. This tour EXCEEDED my expectations! One stand out part of the itinerary was the Bunny "Striker" Lee museum and studio. The guide was quite informative and provided a hands on experience for us. Marie and Donovan are very hospitable and took the time to connect with me and my daughters. They also provided lots of context about each neighborhood we drove through and I can tell that they truly care about Jamaica and all of the shop owners/museum staff we interacted with. The stop by Trench Town was moving and of course the Bob Marley museum was incredible! We also popped by Rocker International Records to take a photo with the owner that we had shopped with the day before. Onestop Cultural Tours Jamaica is a caring team that will make your time in Kingston unforgettable. We are looking forward to spending the with them later this week for an adventure in Ocho Rios.
Hi Danielle Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate you have been to Jamaica before however, the fact that you opted to spend a week in Kingston gives me great joy. I love the fact you and your daughters ventured out on your own around Kingston using Uber and that you booked tours with ourselves and other operators. I am thrilled our Jamaican Music History tour of Kingston exceeded your expectation, especially the guided tour of Bunny Lee Museum. As you experienced Trench Town Culture Yard (the birthplace of reggae) and Bob Marley Museum are must places to visit when spending time in Kingston. Looking forward to our round trip to Ocho Rios and Island Village .....
This was the tour we were most excited about during our trip to Kingston. As music lovers, visiting the many musical landmarks and institutions the city is famous for was an absolute must for us. I contacted Marie in advance, and my husband put together a list of places he had always dreamed of visiting. Marie encouraged us to include the Bunny Lee Museum as part of our day, and we are so glad we listened. It turned out to be one of the highlights of the entire tour for two main reasons: the experience itself was exceptional and took us to another fascinating part of Kingston, and one of our guides there, Uncle Chris, who introduced himself so warmly, ended up spending much of the day with us. He truly enriched the experience tenfold with his knowledge, stories, and passion. Marie and Donovan made sure we got to as many landmarks as possible, and everything was well organised. We even stopped for some Ital food at an authentic roadside café on Orange Street, which was absolutely delicious and added to the authenticity of the day. If you are a music lover who has always dreamed of visiting the famous studios and spaces connected to your favourite reggae artists and producers, this tour is an absolute must. It was one of the most memorable experiences of our time in Kingston.
Ahh Thank you both for your kind words. Your feedback means a lot to us. It was such a pleasure exploring Jamaica's musical heritage, especially with Uncle Chris. It was great delving into the history and culture of Kingston, the birthplace of reggae and home to Bob Marley and many musical legends. I loved the fact that you both made your way to the Dub Club and Dubwise and had a fab time. Donovan and I enjoyed the day immensely and also learnt a lot from Uncle Chris. I was especially pleased you got to sample some of our fine Ital food from Ibo Spice and natural 'sorrel' juice. Thank you again for booking us! Enjoy the many photos and videos taken of our memorable time together.
If you are in Kingston, you have to book a tour with Marie and Donovan at OneStop Cultural Tours! I spent a fantastic day learning about the roots of Reggae and the history of the city. As a solo female traveler, I felt 100% safe and looked after. Marie and Donovan were so patient and kind—they truly made the experience special. I can’t wait to book another tour with them!
Hi Angela, Thank you for your review, We had a fantastic time learning the history of Reggae Music at Bunny Lee Museum, Trench Town Culture Yard and Bob Marley Museum. Donovan and I enjoyed showcasing Kingston to you and immersing ourselves in our Jamaica's rich culture and history. We look forward to touring again with you soon.
Great tour with Marie and Donovan, kind and helpful people who know the best museums about reggae culture and other plans to discover Kingston. Go for it!
Hi Robin, Thank you for your review It was such a pleasure touring Kingston with you and showing you some of what Kingston has to offer. Enjoy your time exploring our beautiful Island and returning back to Kingston. Keep in touch!
We booked last minute on-line due to uncertainty caused by the recent hurricane. Marie was very communicative in the run up so everything felt safe and on the up-and-up. Pick-up and drop-off punctual thanks to Donovan’s excellent driving. Ambitious tour with many stops so it was hard to make it to everything. The Bunny Lee Museum was an unexpected surprise with a great in-house tour guide. Tuff Gong was closed this season and we unfortunately didn’t have enough to go into the yard in Trench Town, we were by the gate though. The Bob Marley museum closed unexpectedly to do relief work so we caught it the next day. But as a bonus we did the mural walk down-town and went to Lee ”Scratch” Perry’s Black Ark Studio. The best meal we had in Jamaica was this day at Ibo, an ital restaurant. Marie is good at finding and supporting local businesses. She organized a driver who stayed with us all evening as we visited the Sunday Dub Club - the highlight of our Kingston stay. Good to note well is that entrance fees are not included in the tour price, so if you are a family of four, like we are, things add up quickly.
Hi Marcia Thank you for your review. It was such a pleasure meeting you and your family and providing a 'Music Tour' of Kingston. A trip to Bunny Lee Museum is a must for anyone wanting to step into the vibrant world of reggae music and Jamaican culture. Having Mr. Creary on board was an added bonus. Unfortunately Tuff Gong was closed due to renovations taking place and Bob Marley Museum was closed due to staff carrying out relief work. Had I been aware of this I would not have cut short our time in Trench Town. Thankfully we were able to wander around the Bob Marley Museum compound, chat to Bongo Herman and take many photos. As a result of not being able to Tour Bob's Mansion we promptly changed the next day's itinerary to include a visit to Bob Marley Museum were everyone enjoyed the experience.
