A long, beautiful day.
A once in a lifetime trip to the Milford Sound was something we’d wanted to do for a long time. Booking with Southern Discoveries seemed the safest option. They had good comms and instructions beforehand. Pick up was a bit delayed on the morning of because of mix ups with other guest picks and no shows. The delays made us miss a few stops which was a shame. We missed the first 2 hours of sights as the bus was steamed up, according to the driver we were “Guinea pigs” for a new bus they were trialling. The journey was spectacular thought perhaps imbalanced, some stops were too short and some too long. We arrived just in time for our departure but only because we skipped a few stops. The boat ride started with a lukewarm buffet which was limited for vegetarians and what followed was the beauty of the Milford Sound. 90 minutes zipped by with beautiful sights before we were back on the bus and on the 4 hours trip back to QT. The driver was very fast and made us quite travel sick which took away from the overall experience in the end.

Thank you for the honest feedback — really glad the Milford Sound nature cruise still delivered. Sorry the delayed pickup got the day off to a rough start — these things can happen on the road, but we do try to keep them tight. Surprised to hear you felt short on vegetarian options at the buffet, as there's usually a good range — we'll flag this with the kitchen to see what happened on the day.

Amazing Farm and Milford Tour!
Had the pleasure of hopping on the Farm and Milford Sound Tour from Queenstown.
We had an absolutely fantastic time! From the scenic drive and learning about the farming in the Southland and capping it off with a magical cruise through Milford Sound! Chris the farmer sheared a sheep faster than I could grab my camera! Would highly recommend :)

The Farm and Milford tour is all about that journey — getting under the skin of Southland farming life before the landscape opens up into the raw beauty of Fiordland. Chris and his shearing skills are quite the introduction, and it sounds like the cruise through Milford Sound was the perfect way to round it all out. A Highlight of Our New Zealand Trip—Farm Life & Milford Sound
Our visit to Woodstone Farm, just before heading to Milford Sound, was truly a highlight of our trip.
Located in Te Anau, this hands-on experience at a working farm was something really special. We loved feeding the lambs, getting up close with the animals, and learning about daily farm life—it made the experience feel authentic and memorable. Watching the sheep shearing was fascinating and something we had never seen before.
Then, continuing on to Milford Sound was nothing short of breathtaking. From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by towering peaks, misty waterfalls, and a quiet, powerful beauty that makes you pause and take it all in.
Cruising through the fjord, breathing in the fresh mountain air, and witnessing nature in its purest form was unforgettable. Photos truly don’t do this place justice—you have to experience it for yourself.
If you’re traveling through New Zealand, both Woodstone Farm and Milford Sound are absolute musts and experiences you’ll carry with you long after your trip ends.

Woodstone Farm to Milford Sound really is the full Southland experience in one go — from feeding lambs in Te Anau to cruising through the fjord, it's hard to imagine a better way to take in this corner of New Zealand.
