Coach from Rome to Pompeii took around 2.5 hours. One stop on this journey loo break and opportunity to buy coffee etc- please be aware prices are EXTORTIONATE at this place. €6.50 for a doughnut and €6.50 for a coffee!!
Tour around Pompeii was around 1.5 hours with Luigi who was extremely knowledgeable, charismatic and who had impeccable English.
Free time for an additional hour.
Only downside was we were not given a map of Pompeii because we were with a tour, so in the free hour we had, this proved challenging as we had no idea where to go.
Driver of coach drove quite fast, right up behind vehicles in front and at one point emergency broke causing a drinks bottle to fly down the aisle of the coach into the well my the drivers feet. He also spoke NO English which again was challenging when it came to the breaks in the journey in trying to understand how long we had.
To summarise, the trip was good value for money as included transport, entry fee and guide.
Downside was that if you lagged behind the guide, you were out of range for the commentary coming through the ear piece.

Pompeii Tour – Could Have Been Better
We visited as a family of 6, 2 adults and teens aged 13–18. We had a good day trip to Pompeii and our driver was excellent — very friendly, knowledgeable and informative throughout the journey.
The guide was clear, but I felt the tour could have been much more engaging. There was no real introduction to Pompeii or the eruption, and a short video or reconstruction at the start would have helped, especially for teenagers.
We saw around five victims’ casts, but there was very little focus on the individual people and their stories. There was much more emphasis on the brothels, whereas we would have preferred to learn about everyday life and the human impact of the eruption.
We also weren’t told about the new casts display or given suggestions about what to explore during our hour of free time. Instead, we were simply walked towards the exit.
There were also some inconsistencies in the historical information, including the eruption being described as occurring in both August and October and bombing in 1943/44.
Pompeii itself was fascinating and our driver was fantastic, but the guided experience could have been much more informative and engaging.

Pompeii feedback - guided tour was disappointing
Transport to Pompeii was good with adequate rest break
However… upon arrival - earpieces weren’t very good quality, signal was very intermittent, the tour guides English was very difficult to understand, spoke too quickly and not clearly. Most of us ended up removing earpieces and just followed the group without any knowledge of what we were looking at. Hurried through the tour and no time to visit any gift shops - despite several complaints around the earpieces and lack of understanding- nothing was done to rectify the issue
We didn’t get to see the main arena also which is one of the main sights on Pompeii
All in all - great transport, amazing place to visit but a very poor tour experience

Ok but couldn’t keep up with the fast pace
Travelling with parents in their 80s. Couldn’t keep up with the fast pace of the walk so we dropped off and took it at our own pace. Also we asked for a toilet break but we had to walk a long way (past 1 toilet - told not to use it) before we had the first toilet break after getting off the coach trip.

Thank you for sharing your feedback.
We're sorry to hear the pace of the tour wasn't the right fit for your group. While most guests find the walking pace moderate, we understand that everyone's comfort and mobility levels are different, and guests are always welcome to explore at their own pace if they prefer.
We also appreciate your comments regarding the restroom stop. Thank you for traveling with us.

Wonderful bus tour and guided tour at Pompeii. I would recommend doing your own thing for lunch bc Vesuvio is gross
The bus ride/driver, Roman, was amazing. Our tour guide with City Wonders was amazing. Our experience at the restaurant, Vesuvio, was absolutely horrible. They made us wait so long before even acknowledging us, that we were close to missing our bus take off. Then on top of that, they didn’t include a salad and didn’t give us a choice between pizza and spaghetti—they just started bringing pizzas. The tables that got there just before us all had nice salads and their choice of pizza or spaghetti, then dessert. And on top of it—they tried to overcharge us and had such a rude, disrespectful attitude on top of it. It felt dirty, rushed, and overall disrespectful.

Great experience to Pompeii
Prompt , clean and well organise transport to and from the site.
Guide have good insight to Pompeii . Would have loved a tad more time to explore the site but instead we were shown out of the site upon the tour ending though still had over an hour before departure.

Easy option to visit Pompeii
After approx 3 hour bus trip from Rome we were met by our guide, Elena, who walked us around many of the highlights of Pompeii, pointing out many interesting features that you may otherwise miss if exploring alone. We had about an hour free after the tour to explore a little further if we liked before returning to Rome. It’s a good way to visit Pompeii if you have limited time.

Day tour of Pompeii from Rome
The trip was very well organised. Our bus driver, Romel, provided interesting information during the drive to Pompeii. The tour of the ruins in Pompeii was also very well organised with a very knowledgeable guide who took us to highlights given the short time we had to see the ruins.

Roberto is my king and he is awesome
My cousin, my mother, and I went on the extended Pompeii tour from Rome which was awesome!! Roberto, our tour guide, was the best we’ve ever had and we learned so much. He is also very patient because there was this British woman who kept interrupting him mid speech/explanation to ask about where we were going (which he already explained), if she could get his person number in case she needed anything (very inappropriate), and if the bus would wait for her because she wanted more time (there were 30 other people waiting to journey back to Rome after an amazing, yet tiring, day at Pompeii). Basically, this review is about how awesome Roberto the tour guide is. (He also likes Pink Floyd which I love too)
