We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and understand how disappointing it must have been to arrive for your tour and find it cancelled.
Please know that we always notify guests at least 24 hours in advance if we are required to cancel a tour.
If your tour was scheduled for October 22nd or 23rd, it’s possible that it was affected by the unexpected Vatican closure during the official visit of King Charles and Queen Camilla. Despite our best efforts to obtain timely updates from the venue, no official communication was released until the very last minute, which unfortunately led to some unavoidable, last minute cancellations.
Only a limited number of tours were affected, and automatic refunds were issued to all impacted bookings. To ensure we review your specific case, could you please contact us directly with your booking details? We’ll be happy to double-check what happened and confirm that everything has been properly processed.

The tour guide was...
The tour guide was wonderful and very kind. The place was packed and beautiful. He was able to talk to us about the museums and guide us through the tour

Wonderful Tour Terrible Tour Guide (URS was his name.)
This is a beautiful tour, just wish we could have had a different tour guide. Viator messed up on our initial reservations. No apologies given.
Changing the tour times of arrival with no actual correspondence. They stated they sent message on WhatsApp. Not everyone uses that app. I would say to others to avoid Viator for this tour. It happened to a party of 5 whom is out $500.00 no refunds. Our time change was inconvenient but we made it happen. Not good on Viator part. Our Tour guide for the Rome Vatican Museums & Sistine chapel. URS was his name was rude and not accommodating as a tour guide should be. Berating a Mom and child because child could not start the tour. Made it very clear to make sure she returned the hearing box back to him cause it cost lots of $$. Uncalled for. Also stating the slow ones to pick up the pace. Used Viator prior on other stops on our vacation this was a tour to remember for many reasons bad and good.

Canceled last minute
We showed up to the tour on time and were met by a lady from the company saying that the tour was canceled because they didn’t have a guide available. They gave us the tickets to go inside, and we walked around on our own, but we would have booked a tour with another company if they’d given us more than 10 minutes notice. We had to fight for a full refund, but Viator customer service took care of it and I appreciate that. I would use a different company if you want to trust the tour will happen.

While extremely rare, guide cancellations can occur due to last-minute emergencies, and we always try to provide access in the form of skip-the-line tickets to ensure guests can still enjoy the Vatican Museums.

Fantastic tour of Vatican City
Had the best morning visiting Vatican City, visiting the museum, Sistine Chapel and finally the beautiful St Peter’s Basilica. I cannot fault our amazing tour guide, Maria (MG). Her knowledge was incredible and navigation around the Vatican and specific artefact’s was great. I loved having a head set to hear Maria’s commentary at all times, whilst heading through a fairly busy museum. Extremely good value for money when you are immediately taken into the basilica itself, rather than waiting for hours and given so much knowledge from a fantastic guide.

Another excellent City Wonder tour
We did the Vatican breakfast, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica tour. Sabrina was our tour guide. She was excellent, informative, educational and with a wonderful sense of humour. It was fantastic to walk into the Vatican Museums before anyone else.
(The breakfast was cold but this didn’t really dampen things as Sabrina made the whole experience special).
I would advise trying to see the Sistine Chapel again separately… maybe before dawn if you can as by the time we arrived at the Chapel it was packed and noisy. Not the experience I was hoping for but this was not the tours fault, just that there are so many tourists. It was great to have as much time to wander the Basilica as we wanted. The crowd wasn’t as noticeable in here.
We have used City Wonders on a number of occasions on our trip to Italy and Greece. They are organised, helpful, easy to contact. It is fantastic to skip all of the lines! Each guide has been the making of the tour as they know their subject matter so well. Sabrina was an archaeologist… how wonderful to have the opportunity to learn from her. I would highly recommend them.

Ricardo was the best guide!
We took the Semi-Private Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter’s Basilica Guided Tour with Ricardo
Though our group was 12 (not very semi private) the guide Ricardo from walks inside Rome was so good! He was so knowledgeable of the history of everything we were seeing. He answered questions I didnt know I needed. He took his time and we saw everything and then some. Nothing was rushed, and we enjoyed every moment of the tour!

Great night tour!
Had a wonderful tour with Paula. Learned a lot and appreciated her perspective. Was nice to get the highlights and not be overwhelmed by everything. It feels a little strange for the tour to abruptly end and be sent on your own to the Sistine Chapel as it’s closing - but trust! Everything was perfectly timed.
