MONREALEへと続き、ランチ休憩。 プライベートガイドと共に大聖堂を訪れます。12世紀の見事なモザイクが印象的なシチリアのノルマン建築のアポテオーシスは、ウィリアム2世時代に建造されたユネスコ世界遺産アラブ・ノルマン朝の一部です。 装飾モザイクの使用ではイスタンブールの聖ソフィア大聖堂やヴェネツィアの聖マルコ大聖堂に匹敵する。 全体的にロマネスク様式であるが、大聖堂はアラブ建築、ビザンティン建築、ノルマン建築の側面を兼ね備えている。 パレルモのホテルに戻ります。

Given that we had never taken a private tour before (and that it was somewhat pricy), my partner and I were initially hesitant to make this booking. But it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to Sicily and well worth our time and money. All the details were accurate and as described (including the complimentary bottles of water provided). Our guide and driver, the charming and suave Domenico, not only transported us to Segesta and Monreale in comfort and safety, he chaperoned us around the sights with authority, offering insightful commentary about their history, for six-and-a-half hours without ever once becoming intrusive or oppressive (and discreetly withdrew while we had our lunch). We never could have covered as much ground (or negotiated the driving required) on our own and give this tour--and Domenico--our highest, most enthusiastic recommendation!
