Grant was organized, told us what to expect with Fringe and uneven surfaces, and set us up with confidence. His history knowledge was outstanding.
Grant was our guide. Tour was very informative and he is very personable and knowledgeable. The tour covers about 2 miles and involves walking the hilly streets of Edinburgh so be prepared.
It was a great tour! Linda was very knowledgeable. TripAdvisor changed our time which changed the tour company and they did not update what we were looking for when we got there. We were looking for a blue umbrella when Mercat is a black and orange umbrella. Once we found our group, it was great!
We did the Secrets of the Royal Mile with Mercat Tours and it was one of the highlights of our time in Edinburgh. Our guide Linda was exceptional — passionate, incredibly knowledgeable, and a natural storyteller. She brought the history of the Royal Mile to life with fascinating details, hidden stories, and just the right amount of humour. What stood out most was how engaging and approachable she was. She answered every question thoughtfully, made sure the whole group felt included, and had a real talent for making complex history feel vivid and personal. You could tell she genuinely loves sharing Edinburgh’s past, and that enthusiasm is infectious. The tour itself was perfectly paced and full of those “I never knew that!” moments. Highly recommend both the Secrets of the Royal Mile tour and requesting Linda if you can — she made the experience memorable. Five stars without hesitation!
Linda was our tour guide and an absolute gem! Highly recommend! We learned so much, laughed and had a wonderful time! The headphone provided were absolutely perfect. Was able to really focus on what she was saying instead of the noisy street around us!
There is a lot of walking on cobble streets and up/down hills, so wear comfortable shoes! Our tour guide Veni was very knowledgeable and she really knows her history. 100% would recommend!
