Adam was a wonderful guide! We really enjoyed our tour!
Adam was our guide for Walkative Tours' "Welcome to Madrid" walk through central Madrid. We visited all the main locations (Royal Palace, Plaza de Mayor, Plaza de Sol, and others), as well as some more "quirky" ones (Spain's "Kilometer 0" marker and the "bear and madroño" monument [symbol of Madrid]). He provided a very good, roughly five-minute summary of Spanish history from the Romans to present day at the beginning of the tour, and then expanded on points in the history at corresponding stops along the tour. Though he did include some discussion of culture, the emphasis of this tour was history. He also provided some tips to visiting museums, the culinary culture, etc. If you are looking to orient yourself to the city and its history, this tour is a great place to start. Walkative Tours use the "tip your guide what the tour was worth to you" model rather than a set price. Our group on a Thursday in May was mid-size (23 guests plus the guide).
We very much enjoyed our walk around central Madrid. Our guide was excellent. She was personable as well as informative. We hit pretty much all the highlights including stopping at a convent where we got a chance to purchase cookies from cloistered nuns. Of course the walk isn't really free. You should give a tip, but it was hard to know what was appropriate to give. I would definitely recommend this tour.
If you’re lucky, you’ll get Esme as your guide—she brings incredible energy and truly makes history come alive. I walked away with a much deeper understanding of Spanish art and history thanks to her engaging storytelling. Overall, a fantastic walking tour I’d highly recommend!
Of course, the title makes it sound like it's free and technically it is, but a tip is expeceded. In our case, the tip was warranted. We received a fairly comprhensivehemsive tour of Centalal Madrid incldingding such sites as the Natioalal Palace and puerto de Sol. We walked throghgh back alleys and wide open plazas. We coveeded a lot of ground in two hours and our guide with the yellow inbrella was fantsticatci. We would defiitelyiyley take another tour from Walkative.
