Mayan Ruins.

Great tour and informational on Mayan culture. Hot and humid at the ruins. Bring insect repellant. Stop at fruit stand was nice.

During the summer months...

During the summer months it is hot, the ride is about 45 minutes in a 15 passenger van with 15 other full grown adults all of varying body sizes, it will be tight and warm. Use the restroom before getting in the van as there are no stops for the trip mostly because there is nothing outside the port besides a couple of fuel stations. Very little sites along the way. Obey the signs, respect the site, pick up trash if you see it, don’t club beyond the marked areas. Time is short on site so don’t wander far as your group being able to see everything depends on you being accounted for by the guide. Speaking of guides, they did great, knowledgeable, helpful and able to provide water and beverages. We even got a surprise of fresh pineapple from a vendor in “Pineapple Town”. Kudos for that!

Everyone from our group...

Everyone from our group got to the meeting place across from the ruin replica early so we were able to leave early. Xiomara was very knowledgeable in answering questions about local like and ancient life. Though it was hot (May) we were able to whip through the ruins before large groups came, never feeling rushed. We brought our 10 month old daughter with us and had her in a carrier most of the time. There was a break were she was able to explore some of the ruins, which she enjoyed. On the drive back, we stopped for fresh pineapple and my husband and I were able to try the local spice which was smoky and spicy, very good on the pineapple!

Educational experience

Well-run excursion. Took 3 grandsons, ages 12, 16 & 16 to see the ruins. All of them enjoyed the informative experience. The pineapple stop was delicious. No issues with getting back to port on time. RECOMMENDED.

THE BEST!!

If you love archeology and history, this is THE PERFECT excursion off your cruise ship!! Our tour guide, Aldo, and our bus driver were awesome! Aldo gave us a ton of historical info with pics as we drove to the site, and stayed with us the entire time, giving in-depth knowledge. The shops outside the ruins were great also! Sweet sweet people working them. HIGHLY RECOMMEND and I FINALLY got to live one of my dreams by walking up a Mayan temple. 🩵🩵

JC was an excellent and...

JC was an excellent and incredibly knowledgeable guide. The ride there was nice and they provided drinks (soda/water) along the way. The van was very comfortable. At the ruins, there were a lot of people but he made sure we saw it all and educated us on so much. On the way back, we even stopped and had some samples of delicious pineapple 🍍 . Best part was the seats reclined in the van, bc we were exhausted on the way back! Overall, a great excursion and learned so much! My 12 year old loved it too.

Disabled vet finally seeing the Ruins.

Our guide his name was Juan Carlos and he was so funny and made everything a great experience. He had plenty of water for everyone so we stayed hydrated on a hot day seeing the ruins but explained a lot completely in detail. He even had laminated pictures to show explaining other stuff. He was very informative. The ruins were definitely a slight to see. My husband does have a wheelchair so I would say that if you have a wheelchair. The rough terrain is a little complicated, but we did okay.

Amazing Mayan moments

We had a little snafu to start our day…I had messaged with the company via the Viator app, and was told 9:30 am for departure. At 8:45, our driver called to say we were late. 20 minutes later of running off the boat and through the maze of vendors to get through the pier, and we were in the van to go. Octavian was passionate to share Mayan culture and facts with our group. It was a super interesting way to spend our 40 minute drive to the ruins. The ruins were amazing. It was HOT, but there is a TON of shade along the walkways, so you can keep cool. Octavian also carried cooled water bottles for us to drink when our own supplies ran out. (Don’t forget water!) On the way home, our van stopped at the fresh fruit stand and we each received a few slices of fresh pineapple to snack on on the way home. They also stopped just a bit down the road for our soda drinks. We were dropped right in front of the pier when our day was complete. Overall, a little bit of culture for the family along with some sightseeing and snacks.

Great and educated service!

Very friendly guide. Gave us lots of history and archeology information. Love to experience this type of educated service from my countrymen (I’m Mexican too). Site is small compare with Teotihuacán or Chichén Itzá, but enjoyable. Great excursion for the price.

Great way to visit the ruins!

Great experience overall! I would definitely recommend if you are interested in seeing the ruins. We saw others on tours from cruise ships and they were in very large busses. Our tour had just ten people so it was a much more intimate experience and we could ask questions and hear. Our tour guide Yamada was fantastic.and gave us a lot of information about the town and the ruins. She gave a lot of history on the Maya people and culture during the ride out to the ruins and then gave us info and time to explore while at the ruins. She was happy to answer all of our questions and seemed very knowledgeable. I really enjoyed the visual aids she used to illustrate different things. On the ride home she stopped at a local fruit stand and bought us some pineapple slices. They had a cooler of cold water which was nice because it was very warm. If you choose this tour, make sure to read the instructions on how to get to the tour meeting place. You have to leave the cruise port completely to get to their booth and they cruise lines don’t make it easy to get out. (They want to keep the money for themselves). It is about a 1/4 mile walk. You may also have to wait a bit for everyone in your party so be prepared for that as well. We were a little disappointed as 6 of the people on our tour delayed us close to an hour. They did drive us to the Main street to take a picture by the Mahaual sign while we were waiting, which was a nice gesture.
