This was my second trip to Luxor, the first being about 15 years ago, so I went into it thinking I probably knew exactly what to expect... We were collected from our hotel at 6am in a private, air-conditioned car by Salah, our driver for the day. And what a good call that was. The journey from Hurghada is a long one, but Salah made it easy. He drove sensibly, happily stopped whenever we wanted to take photos, and regularly checked whether we needed a toilet break. Small things perhaps, but when you've got a long desert drive ahead of you, they become surprisingly important! We met Sayed, our personal guide, at Karnak Temple. Between him and Salah, we had a really good team for the day. Both were friendly, helpful and very willing to give advice about the practical side of things too – including the whole tipping situation. They explained what was appropriate when using toilet facilities and, just as importantly, how to avoid accidentally ending up tipping one of the unofficial “guides” you can encounter around the sites. That sort of local advice is genuinely useful. And Luxor itself? Absolutely stunning. Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Tutankhamun's tomb, the tombs of the Ramesses kings and Hatshepsut Temple – there's almost too much to take in. Even after having been here before, I was surprised by how much had changed. The tombs open to visitors are rotated, so what you see isn't necessarily what you saw on a previous visit. And apparently archaeology doesn't wait for tourists either – extra statues beside the Colossi of Memnon had literally been excavated and put back on display only weeks before our visit. So if you've been to Luxor before, don't assume you've “done” Luxor. You haven't. One thing I would definitely recommend is paying the extra £45–£50 or so for the boat across the Nile. Yes, you can drive around to the bridge. Yes, it will probably save you some money. But you're in Luxor. You're standing beside the Nile. Get on the bloody boat. It's a short trip, but it's part of the experience and far nicer than sitting in a car going around the river. Lunch was a tasty set menu at an Egyptian restaurant, with meat options available. It was clearly geared towards the endless stream of tourists doing these trips, but that's not necessarily a bad thing – the food was good, service was straightforward and, perhaps most importantly on a day involving a lot of sightseeing, the toilets were clean and free to use. The whole day was beautifully put together, from the early morning drive through the desert to crossing the Nile and wandering around some of the most extraordinary pieces of history you'll ever see. It's a long day from Hurghada, no question. But it's absolutely worth doing. For me, the fact that I'd been before and still came away seeing new things probably says everything. Add in a great driver, a knowledgeable guide and people who actually take an interest in making sure you're having a good day, and you've got an excellent experience. If you're in Hurghada and wondering whether Luxor is worth the early start and the long drive, stop wondering. Just go!

We had a fantastic day trip from Hurghada to Luxor and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Everything was really well organised and ran exactly to time. We were picked up from our hotel at 6am in a private, air-conditioned car by our driver Salah, who was brilliant. He was friendly, helpful and made the long drive really enjoyable (letting us nap after such an early start).He was also more than happy to stop whenever we wanted for photos. We met our guide, Sayed, at Karnak Temple who was also a great guy. He clearly knew his stuff and explained the history and different sites without making it feel like you were just being given a load of dates and facts. The whole day was honestly beautiful. The drive through the desert, seeing the Nile, the boat across the river (which is an extra cost, But totally worth it), and then actually standing in places like Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut Temple was an amazing experience. We paid the extra to see Tutankhamun’s tomb and the tombs of the Ramesses kings which were a highlight. Salah and Sayed both made the day easy and enjoyable from start to finish, and nothing seemed like too much trouble. If you’re staying in Hurghada, I’d say Luxor is an absolute must-see. It’s a long day, but completely worth it and a trip we definitely won’t forget.

Great from start to finish, Salah our driver arrived early nice air conditioned car to take the long drive through the desert, we’re then joined by Mena our guide who was full Of knowledge taking us round the wonderful sites. Lunch was lovely and plentiful and the whole day was great fun. I would recommend this private tour rather than sitting in a coach full of people in this heat as you can say when and where you want to stay or leave. Really good value for money

This private tour was extraordinary. Omar picked us up at our hotel in a private car, and we did a very comfortable trip from Hurghada to Luxor (and back). Once in Luxor, our private guide Angie did an outstanding job at explaining the history of ancient Egypt and the pharaonic customs, history and culture - widely explaining the reason for all the archaeological sites in Luxor, and the meaning behind the hieroglyphics and images in Karnak temple, the Valley of the Kings tombs we visited (3 of them) and Temple Hatshepsut - as well as quick stop at the Colossi of Memnon. This was for me the second time in Luxor and wanted to show my wife all the beauty of this city and the ancient sites, and learned much more this time with Angie than the last visit with another guide. Also having this as a private tour is extremely helpful as we have time to ask all the questions, and extra time to explore the sites alone. Highly recommend!

We really enjoyed the 2-day tour with Adel. He was able to convey his amazing knowledge well. The trip from Hurghada to Luxor and back went very well, even though the drivers sometimes drove very fast. It was not quite perfect that, although we had already mentioned it several times when booking, relatively little consideration was given to my partner's walking disability and we had to point it out several times. Unpleasant, but then it worked out each time.

It was a fantastic experience that exceeded all expectations. The driver was kind and drove VERY nicely for Egyptian conditions. The guide spoke perfect clear English and was very careful to tell us about the different things we saw along the way.

We had the most amazing experience yesterday with a privat, so only us 3 person, full day trip from Hurghada til Luxor. Our driver, Salah, was courteous and the ride super comfortable, with AC and comfortable seats to take a little nap on the way. Our guide, Emad, was extremely good at English and had many good stories and came prepared to show us the best of the Luxor historical place. All the stops was included the ticket entry, and Emad guided us thru everything. We saw Karnak Temple, Colossi Menom, Hapsthesuth Temple and Valley og the Kings. For lunch we had an option of buffet or local cuisine, which we chose the last and it was really good. There was a lot of people, but there was a good flow, so it never seemed to crowded. This experience was truly amazing, but we imagine it would be hard to get the full experience if you have problems walking, but for our family it was perfect. We also had the opportunity to go for a boat trip on the Nile, which was a super nice break from the desert. Overall a recommendable experience, and we hope to come back some time to experience even more.
