Super long day (my pick-up time was 4:20am & I was dropped off after 8pm), as others have said, but worth it! Antigua was amazing. Our time there was well-split between a 2 hour tour, followed by 2 hours of time on our own for lunch & whatever else. I’d have liked to have one more hour in Antigua, balancing the trip between 5 hours on the road, 5 hours in Antigua, and 5 hours on the return journey. But instead we got 4 hours in Antigua. The guides were respectful & professional & I’d have felt safe with them as a woman travelling alone. The van was spacious & myself and the two other tourists who signed up for this each had a row of seats to stretch out & even nap on, which made the drive easier. I also appreciated that the guides/drivers did not play loud music on the way. This made it easier to listen to podcasts and books about Guatemala on my airpods which made the journey better.
Jose was great very knowledgeable and gave us lots of cool history about Guatemala and El Salvador Antigua was beautiful definitely worth the car ride
Our tour guide JC picked us up from our hotel in San Salvador to start our tour on time. The tour guide was professional, friendly, knowledgeable and we learned a lot of history. JC took us to a restaurant for lunch called "Finca Colombia", the food was delicious and the services oustanding. When we arrived to Antigua Guatemala World Heritage Site Day we started our tour and we learned a lot of history from there, our tour guide was called Marcos in Antigua, after we finish in Antigua we come back to San Salvador on the same day with JC our tour guide, it was a long tourday but it was worth it. Highly recommend it.
Josue and Edwin were awesome! Enjoyed the day and learned so much about the area, and enjoyed the tasting and lunch. Great time with this trip along with the previous two tours earlier this week with Josue who has been incredible the whole time!
All the praise goes to Julio my driver. This is a hard bumpy 10+ hour round trip and he handled it like a champion. Traffic and potholes scooters etc. Antigua is amazing a must visit it is much busier and active than San salvador. Tons of shops and little restaurants. History all around with volcanos all around you. My guide there was Manuel and he was amazing took us to all the churches and sites in the city. The drive is the hardest part, the border is easy. If you survive the long hard drive it is totally worth the price or just stay in Antigua all together its amazing
What a wonderful day trip drive tour experience of historic narratives places of natural progression
Would highly recommend enjoying a full day small group historical tour with Gaby and El Salvador Positive Tours! It is for sure a very long day so be sure to plan accordingly in your schedule. We left before sunrise in the clean small SUV from San Salvador on the 5 hour journey across the border to Antigua, Guatemala with a few key stops to stretch and grab very good gas station coffee. Gaby was very friendly, smart and gracious. She has amazing energy and a wonderful sense of humor. Her driving was incredible along the windy roads. We had lots of fun which made the long trip seem shorter. The drive into the mountainous area of the three peaks in Guatemala with the active volcano was a bit surreal. We saw it spewing in puffs of smoke multiple times along the way. The UNESCO village of Antigua was even better than we imagined. Manuel was our local Guatemalan tour guide. His gentle style and an outstanding explanations without being over the top were much appreciated. He started us out with an overview on an awesome rooftop restaurant with some excellent coffee and hot chocolate. We enjoyed the Palacio National and some lovely churches before roaming the vividly colorful cobblestone streets where even fast food places blended seamlessly into the character. Our only recommendation would be our time was too short and we could easily stay there a few nights! All in all, Gaby and Manuel provided outstanding service and curated an incredibly memorable travel experience.
Our experience with Alejandro was fantastic from start to finish. He reached out the day before to share all the details, which made everything smooth and easy. The drive to Antigua takes about five hours one way, but it never felt long. Alejandro told us so many interesting things about life, history, medicine, and education in El Salvador and Guatemala. His stories made the journey fly by! He’s also a great driver. Very calm, safe, and attentive. It was just me and my friend, so it felt like a private tour. In Antigua, we had a walking tour with Marco, the local guide, and it was the highlight of the trip! The city is stunning, and Marco’s stories brought it to life. We loved every moment and would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the region!
Everything was perfect from start to finish! Alejandro contacted me the day before and provided all the details. During the 5-hour drive to Antigua, he shared fascinating stories about the history, medicine, education, and culture of El Salvador and Guatemala, making the long ride fly by. He’s also an excellent driver. Calm and professional. It was just my friend and me, so we enjoyed a very personal experience. In Antigua, our local guide Marco gave an amazing walking tour. Highly recommended!
Fantastic tour! The guide was knowledgeable, friendly and spoke perfect English. I recommend to all!
