Byzantine art with lots of history
Very close to Sta. Maria la Maggiore and almost hidden, Santa Práxedes appears in a narrow street, and inside we find an incredible Byzantine treasure, paintings, frescoes, and the curious thing, theoretically the column where Jesus was flogged. Apart from this, an essential visit for lovers of sacred art and artistic history
A very special basilica 'hidden away' in Rome
We toured this stunning, ancient basilica with the priest as part of an Insight Vacations "Country Roads of Italy" tour. Amazing! It dates back to the 4th century, and was consecrated in the 8th century. The mosaics are absolutely breathtaking! A very special basilica 'hidden away' in Rome.
