Danielo Leone was a fantastic tour guide for our visit to the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill in Rome. This was my second tour of the Colosseum and I truly appreciated Danielo’s descriptions, pointing out art, architecture, construction and unique historical aspects of the sites. He shared several stories and also gave us plenty of time to ask questions, capture pictures and take in the essence of Rome. A very gracious guide and I totally enjoyed it.

An excellent tour even though the guide has a deep Italian accent making her difficult to understand on a regular basis. We went throughout the Colosseum including arena floor, first level of stands, and around the exterior. We also walked through the Roman Forum getting information about ruins, temples, churches, and other buildings. It was definitely a nice tour, but I would have enjoyed it more with a guide who has a lesser accent. I took four other Viator tours in the past week. The guide in Athens had a heavy accent but the other three guides did not.

We had an excellent tour of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Roman Forum with Georgia from Carpe Diem Tours. Georgia was outstanding. From the beginning, she did a remarkable job navigating our group through the very large crowds at the Colosseum. She was firm when she needed to be, but always polite and professional, which made what could have been an overwhelming experience feel organized and manageable. Her knowledge of Roman history was exceptional. She clearly knows the subject extremely well and was able to bring the history of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Roman Forum to life rather than simply reciting facts. I also had an unexpected issue with my ticket. Despite being a fairly organized traveler, I had booked it using my nickname, while my identification showed my full legal name. As we discovered, the Colosseum takes the requirement that the name on the ticket match the visitor’s identification very seriously, and there was a real possibility that I would not be permitted to enter. Georgia immediately stepped in and handled the situation calmly and professionally. Her assistance navigating the issue was enormously appreciated and ultimately allowed us to continue with what became a wonderful experience. Just as importantly, Georgia was genuinely considerate of everyone in our group. She paid attention to whether people needed to use the restroom, take a short break, or simply have a moment before continuing. Despite covering a tremendous amount of ground, we never felt rushed or ignored. Georgia was knowledgeable, courteous, organized, and an absolute pleasure to spend the tour with. She turned what could have been a stressful start into a memorable day in Rome. I would highly recommend both Georgia and Carpe Diem Tours.

Excellent tour. Our guide “Sushi” was wonderful. It was a really warm day and she kept checking on everyone. Very knowledgeable. Great balance between keeping the tour moving and providing detail.

The guide was funny and kept us engaged with the history of the area. It was hot so he made use of all the shade we could find. Made history come alive.

**Buyer beware - this tour did not match the advertised itinerary.** The tour was supposed to last 90 minutes and include the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. Instead, it ended after about an hour, spent entirely touring the Colosseum floor. We did not visit the Roman Forum or Palatine Hill at all. Our guide repeatedly reminded us that we had purchased the “cheap tickets,” so we would only be covering that limited area. Much of the tour was spent standing in a hallway while she pointed to pictures in a book, rather than using the incredible surroundings we were actually standing in to explain the history. I contacted Viator customer service and requested a partial refund because the experience did not match the itinerary included with my booking. Despite the written description stating that the tour was 90 minutes and included the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, I was told those sites were not actually included, and no effort was made to resolve the issue. Overall, this was a one-star experience. Be very cautious before booking the “cheap ticket,” as what you receive may be significantly less than what is advertised.
