Wondering what to do in Vlore? The city is a working Albanian port with a long promenade, and almost every good day here begins by leaving it on a boat. Speedboats cross the Bay of Vlore to the Karaburun peninsula — Albania's only marine national park, uninhabited, reachable no other way — stopping at the Haxhi Ali sea cave, the ancient quarry at Grama Bay and a run of beaches with no road behind them, for €27–€45 shared or €299–€419 for a private boat. Sazan island, a Cold War military base opened to visitors only in 2015, is on most of the same itineraries. Snorkelling trips cost €36–€40, sunset cruises with a glass of wine about €32. On land, the Llogara pass climbs to a thousand metres of pine forest above the Riviera and is where the paragliders launch (€129), while day trips run south to Himara, Porto Palermo and the Blue Eye (€45–€85) or inland to Berat. In town itself: Independence Square, the Muradie mosque of 1542, the view from Kuzum Baba, and the monastery on Zvernec island at the end of a wooden footbridge. Two days is enough.
