Atlanta is two days of downtown and one day out of it. Day one is Centennial Olympic Park: the Georgia Aquarium (whale sharks and belugas, around $45), the World of Coca-Cola next door and the College Football Hall of Fame, all bundled cheaper on a CityPASS. Day two is the city’s story: the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park on Auburn Avenue (free), a guided civil rights tour from about $65, then the Beltline’s Eastside Trail with a food and art walk through Inman Park (from $83). Day three, leave town: Stone Mountain is 30 minutes east, the Walking Dead sets in Senoia an hour south, and the North Georgia wine country around Dahlonega and Helen 90 minutes north (tours from $101). Spring and autumn are the seasons; summer is hot and humid, so plan the aquarium for midday.
