Itinerary
After pick up at accommodation in Cape Town we will travel along the N1 National road to some of the Cape Winelands’ hidden gems in the Durbanville Wine Region. Our first stop will be at De Grendel wine estate. There are very few places where you will find panoramic views as at De Grendel. See views of Table Mountain, the city of Cape Town and the seaboard all in one landscape. The Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot are two cultivars that come highly recommended at De Grendel, as well as the Op Die Berg Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Our next stop will be at Durbanville Hills wine estate showcasing breathtaking views of Robben Island and Table Mountain. Durbanville Hills wine estate boasts panoramic views over the Tygerberg Hills, Robben Island, and Table Mountain. Durbanville Hills also provides Cellar Tours although pre-booking is essential. (Please advise whether we can assist with the booking.) Durbanville Hills wine estate is known for their Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinotage.
Six generations of winemakers have made fine wines at Diemersdal Wine Estate for over three centuries. Diemersdal is renowned for its high-quality, award-winning range of wines enjoyed around the world. With 5-star awards from John Platter and gold medals from the Michelangelo International Wine Awards. Visitors can also enjoy a beautiful lunch or a picnic overlooking the vineyards.
We end off the Durbanville Winelands day tour with Meerendal Wine Estate, who have been producing wines for 300-years. In 1714 when Christina Stans planted 60,000 vines on the rolling hills of Meerendal. Meerendal boasts the oldest vineyard in Durbanville – a block of bush vine Pinotage that was planted in 1955. A special wine, the Heritage Block Pinotage, is made from these old vines. Recently, new Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards were planted. Today, Meerendal wines are being exported to over twelve countries worldwide. At the end of our tour, guests will be dropped off at their accommodation in Cape Town.

We booked this tour for Friday 15/04/22, which was a bank holiday therefore 2 out of the 4 wine estates were closed. We were not told before end otherwise I would have cancelled or reschedule the visit in order to have the full experience I paid for. De Grendel - we were quoted R90 however those prices were changed by the vineyard 2 years ago. At first they didn’t want us to go but see we’re willing and able to pay we ended up having a lovely experience. Diemersdal Wine Estate - was closed due good Friday bank holiday. However that was not informed to us after we paid the tickets. Instead our guide to us Hill Crest Wine Estate which we did not enjoy the wine tasting experience- too relaxed, not information provided during the tasting. Durbanville Hills - we didn’t like the experience. It was too informal, more like a place you would go for a drink rather than having a wine tasting experience. Meerendal wine estate was also closed so our guide took us to the Klein Roosboom Boutique Winery. Interesting experience and better that Hillcrest and Durbanville. However it’s a place where people spend the day and drinks with friends rather than having a wine tour/ tasting experience. Overall I was disappointed I we paid a lot of money for an experience that much the value of the promised tour.
Dear Andrea, Good evening and thank you for taking your precious time to give us the feedback about the trip you did with us. We are sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. We were not really aware that those wineries on the itinerary were going to be closed due to the bank holiday. Kindly send us a short message at info@kaburatravel.co.za to see how we could compensate you for all the troubles you went through. Once again kindly accept our apologies for the inconvenience. Stay safe
