Amazing experience! We had Carlos as our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable and passionate about Proyecto Asis’s goal and mission. We saw so many amazing animals that we would have never seen in our lives! It was supposed to last about an hour and a half but it went 30 minutes over which was awesome! HIGHLY recommend this as the money goes back into the rehabilitation of these beautiful animals.
How nice when travelers motivate other travelers to come and contribute! Five-stars for you, too! :)
This was a fantastic experience for our whole family, and we learned so much! If we had more time in the area, we definitely would have joined the volunteering portion of the tour as well. The property and enclosures are stunning, exceptionally clean, and well-maintained—it is obvious how deeply loved and well cared for these rescued animals are. Our guide, Oscar, was wonderful! He took his time and kept the tour engaging and fun for both the adults and kids (ages 8 and 11) in our group. What a truly incredible organization!
It's so nice, Shannon, that you noticed all the effort our coworkers from Maintenance put in every day to keep the place and the animals' conditions well maintained! Thank you a lot for this review!
This place is wonderful! They were very easy to work with and accommodating to the group size of our family reunion. We did the wildlife tour and volunteer activity. We had 17 people with lots of kids ages 6-17. I was worried about the little ones getting bored but our guide Carlos was spectacular! He was entertaining and funny while delivering lots of great information. He held the kids attention the whole time. We learned how the center rescues and rehabilitates animals to be released into the wild again. The volunteer portion was also a highlight for the kids. They worked to cut up fruits for the animals. It was very organized with a little menu for each animal that had pictures and how much of each fruits to put in their bowl. Then we loaded some of the food into “enrichment toys” so the animals could work to get some of the food. We then delivered the food to a few of the animals to watch the hierarchy behavior in action.
We are glad that your family had a different and fun way to learn about Conservation. Many thanks for choosing our Sanctuary from all the options you had here in the Arenal area.
Great tour with family. The rescue center aspect provided a lot of opportunities for our young kids to see animal up close and understand the impact of negative human interaction with wild life. The place is magnificent. We were blessed to add a wild sloth, toucan and monkey to our experience.
Hi, Many thanks for your visit, Daniel! Just to clarify, your family participated in the activities in the Sanctuary area. The Rescue Center is an area where our visitors have no access :)
Few animals, not participatîg to feeding as explained in description. Price too high.
Hello Sawadeeka83! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. Proyecto Asís is not a traditional zoo. We are a Wildlife Sanctuary whose primary mission is to provide care for animals that have been injured, orphaned, confiscated from illegal captivity, or otherwise cannot be returned to the wild. The entrance fee directly supports the daily care, specialized diets, veterinary attention, and habitat maintenance for these animals. We understand that visitors looking for a large collection of animals may find the experience different from what they expected. Our focus is on education, conservation, and learning about the individual stories of the animals in our care. Thank you again for your feedback, and we wish you the best in your future travels.
Great experience! Highly recommend. Carlos was fun and informative and really engaged the kids in the mission of the rescue!
I visited Proyecto Asis during my stay in La Fortuna, and I can honestly say this was one of the most meaningful experiences of my trip. This is not just a wildlife tour — it’s a place with a purpose. Every animal and bird you see has a story, and hearing those stories completely changes the way you look at them. You don’t just observe — you understand. What touched me the most was the people. The team here is incredibly passionate, and you can feel it in every word they say. Their love for animals, for nature, and for what they do is genuine and deeply inspiring. It’s rare to see people so connected to their work — it doesn’t feel like a job, it feels like a calling. There is something very powerful about being in a place where compassion and care are at the center of everything. You leave not only with knowledge, but with a completely different perspective. What they do here matters. It’s important, it’s needed, and it deserves support. If you are in La Fortuna — don’t miss this. Truly.
Excellent place, the treatment of Bradley lovely for all family members. History, information, everything. Thank you very much
This was hands down the best activity of our trip to Costa Rica. We learned so much from our incredible guide, Carlos. This is not a zoo- this is a non-profit doing amazing work to rehabilitate and release wild animals (most were once kept as pets). We started with a tour where Carlos taught us all about the animals, their backstories, and the plans for their eventual release. Then we helped prepare their breakfast as part of an enrichment activity, and got to watch them eat. After this, Carlos took us to the protected area nearby where you can view sloths in the wild. There is no gaurantee a sloth with be there, but we were lucky enough to see one. We learned so much and I’m so glad we got to spend the day with these incredible animals. Our kids (10,8 and 8) had a blast - this is a fun activity for the whole family and you are supporting a great cause. Thanks again Carlos- pura vida!
Our family did it all—the sloth tour, wildlife tour, volunteering, and the homestay—and it was an amazing experience. The rescue center has a great mission, and it’s clear they genuinely care about the animals. The guides were fun, knowledgeable, and made the tours really enjoyable. We learned a lot about Costa Rica’s wildlife. I’d definitely recommend both the tours and volunteering. The homestay was a highlight. We were welcomed like family and got a real look at local life, which made the experience even more special.
