The Valley of the Kings, located in Luxor City, Egypt, on the west bank of the Nile, directly across from Thebes (modern Luxor), is the core of the Theban Necropolis. Comprising two separate valleys, this archaeological site served as the burial ground for pharaohs during the New Kingdom.
The Howard Carter House, named after the renowned archaeologist Howard Carter, provides a fascinating window into the life and work of the excavator celebrated for discovering the tomb of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun. This museum offers a diverse collection of artifacts, including personal belongings, letters, and photographs, offering valuable insights into Carter's innovative excavation techniques and the monumental discovery that captivated the world. Visitors can explore the exhibits to gain a deeper understanding of the man behind one of the most significant archaeological finds in history.
Reaching an impressive height of 97 feet (30 meters), the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari boasts an unusual architectural design. Built around 2050 BC by Mentuhotep II, the founder of the Middle Kingdom, this temple features a distinctive sloping, terrace-shaped mortuary structure.
The Colossi of Memnon, comprising two colossal stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, proudly guards the entrance of the dilapidated Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep III, which stands as the largest temple within the Theban Necropolis.

We enjoyed our guide Bob. He was jolly and when I told him we didn't need a lot of speeches, but liked to ask our own questions, he was very accommodating. He gave us great tips, got us quickly through gates and left us to explore on our own as well. We really enjoyed seeing the Howard Carter house, which had no other visitors. The Valley of the Kings and Temple of Hatshepsut were crowded with tourists and sadly, lots of influencers posing for selfies. Just be patient and take a big breath and maybe photobomb them. The only glitch in the tour is we were taken to an alabaster vendor which hadn't been listed as part of the tour. We got the heavy sell for their tacky art in exchange for a drink and a clean toilet.
