Do you have what it takes to figure out who killed Jimmy Capello, how, and why? He was poisoned, strangled AND stabbed... popular guy! You will be met by a real person in character as a detective who will send you on your murder investigation and give you everything you need to play. Work your way through Gastown in teams of 2 to 6 players, picking up clues and solving puzzles along the way. You'll see historic places, public art, architecture and other attractions. This outdoor escape room mystery game is *real* fun - there is no app to download, no wifi or devices required. You'll be too busy exploring Gastown in downtown Vancouver to look at your phone (but don't forget to take photos)! Can you earn a top score and your place on our website and Instagram page? Each team receives a team certificate with their score and each player receives a souvenir sticker. Are you ready to solve this murder mystery? You have two hours to catch a killer!

The murder investigation starts at a secret starting location close to Waterfront Station, at the edge of Gastown. (The start location will be approximately a 5 minute walk from here - watch your messages for your secret start location.)

A 3,000 pound, seven foot tall, bronze statue of an angel carrying a fallen soldier up to heaven. There are 3 of these statues in Canada at CPR stations in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Montreal since 1921.

Family fun!

Our family of 4 had a blast doing this as part of our quick day trip into Vancouver. We enjoyed all the clues and being able to walk around Gastown and learn some history about it but also include a favorite activity for our family! We had lots of fun and laughs and would definitely recommend to anyone and do one of these again!

Great for company team building

My company had a conference in Vancouver and we wanted to see a bit of the city. The scavenger hunt was a great way to do that. It was a lot of fun. We had two teams of 6, and it was fun competing against each other. The leader was so engaging and made it extra fun. I recommend this for anyone looking for a team building event.

Family Fun

Great Boxing Day experience for our family of four (two parents with two teenage kids. Harder in the dark, we think… but still managed to solve the case!

Teen Fun in the City

This was so much fun for our family of teens. We rushed around Gastown looking for clues. It was a nice way to break up the “regular” site seeing. We solved the murder!

Game Requires refinment

We believe this mystery murder game has the potential to be an excellent activity to acquaint players with the interesting history and sights of the city of Vancouver; however, we found the game clues to be confusing and quite time consuming. We believe the game requires much more than 2 hours to complete for participants to realize the benefit the game seeks to provide for city visitors. It is obvious a lot of time and creative thought were put into developing this game concept; we would encourage the game developers to simplify and refine the game and continue to make it available as a fun, exciting way to explore the city of Vancouver. We will play this game again, if our future journeys bring us back to Vancouver.

Hi Todd, I am the owner of Vancouver Mysteries and I will have to respectfully disagree with your feedback about our game. We have been running it for over a decade and I have the data from tens of thousands of people who have played it by now. In fact, most teams can complete this game in under 2 hours with a high score. It would be impossible to design a game like this that every single team can complete with the same results due to different skill levels, mobility, English language proficiency, etc. For example, some teams complete our games in less than 90 minutes and say its too easy while there are some teams who can not complete it in time but still have fun anyways. And every year we get a few teams who can not complete it at all and then say it is confusing, impossible, or even broken. But MOST teams do complete the game in under 2 hours with a pretty high score (70 or above, at least). I'd also like to add for anyone else reading this review that when Todd and his teammate were unable to complete the game and returned unhappy, our office processed a refund back to them right on the spot. Please check out our other reviews before you make up your mind about supporting our small business (if you don't enjoy escape games and puzzles please do not book this experience). Unexpected fun.

Great way to learn a bit about Gastown and explore a fun area. We got a nearly perfect score and finished with about 10 minutes left because we forgot to turn the page at one of the clues. Whoopsie. Detective Bennett was great.

Marvelous & Mysterious

Good cold start with our Detective contact, and good instructions both written and spoken ☺️ if you like escape rooms and walking tours, this is a good combination. We did it when it was a bit colder outside, so maybe bring some light gloves if your hands are sensitive to the cold. A bit more time would have been handy, if only to take more photos of the sights.
