Itinerary
We meet at 7:30am to begin our once in a lifetime journey. We hop aboard our private transport en route to La Cumbre at 4700m. Once there, we get all our gear (helmets, gloves, knee/elbow pads, pants/jacket) and our top of the line bikes (Kona Full Suspension bikes with hydraulic disk brakes). Our bikes are maintained after every ride and we have over 100 bikes in our shop, ensuring you will get a bike that has been serviced and is adequate to your height. Also, the brakes are on the side you want them (different countries use different sides for the front/rear brake and you wouldn't want to grab the wrong brake because it's not set for your country). Our guides have an average of 10 years experience guiding on this incredible road. They give you detailed instructions before we start the ride to help keep you safe and comfortable on our descent. After our safety induction, we begin our ride. The first 24km of the ride are on the tarmac, this is a great chance for you to get a feel for your bike and the brakes and if you're up for it get some speed. The incredible andes show their splendor as we wind our way through this spectacular valley, taking small stops to catch the views and so the guides can explain upcoming sections. Eventually we arrive at Unduavi where every rider has to pay a road tax. Here we load up our bikes and do a big uphill on the bus. The bus arrives to the top of the old road, known as Death Road. Your guides will give you a safety briefing and check all the bikes. The barren snow capped mountains we have passed by are long gone and we are now in the incredible cloud forest. We literally start above the clouds, then ride through and out of them into the lush jungle. The last 40km of our ride are out of this world, as we curve our way down an incredible road carved out of the side of the andes, passing through waterfalls, rivers, small communities, down, down, down to the steaming jungle. The views of the valley are breathtaking and the rush of adrenaline and pure fun are incomparable. We have several stops along the way to take in the views and for our safety briefings. This is important so that you know about any corners or tricky sections of the road before you arrive and so that the guides can answer any questions, tell some jokes and give you some of the fascinating history of this road. We stop twice to refresh ourselves with a well earned snack and there is unlimited water provided during the ride. We end the ride at our jungle refuge where we enjoy a delicious buffet, a dip in the pool and relaxation. There are also hot showers and soap/shampoo/towels for you. After relaxing and celebrating our amazing ride, we hop in the bus for our 3.5 hour ride back to La Paz, where we will be dropped off near our hotels. Many people say this is the best experience of their south America trip, make sure you do it safely with a reputable company who focuses on giving you an amazing ride.

the experience with Barracuda was very good: they are professional and fun at the same time. their motto is: safety, fun and service: many touristic businesses should learn from this. thank you Barracuda team (Remy, Claudio and Luis) for a great cycling day! Keep riding strong!
Our guide Remy and Alvaro were amazing! Extremely on top of safety information, clear with plans and ready to help when someone got hurt. Weather was awful that day, rainy and cold and everything got soaked; we also got delayed due to it snowing on the way back but our guides were always trying to help and do their best.
We had a great day with Remy, Claudio and Oscar (our driver). We chose Barracuda because of the emphasis they put on safety, while also having a great time and being very reasonably priced. Remy was full of energy and ensured we were enjoying ourselves, but still with a serious side that acknowledges we are riding bicycles on a cliff edge (no one was rushed, bikes were in great condition and Claudio checked them regularly during our stops, group was max 14 as promised). As someone with only urban cycling experience, this was appreciated! Was it totally perfect? No, but, not in ways that really mattered. Some of the loaner gear has seen better days but was good enough. The day was suuuuuper long with some parts feeling especially slow (like, meeting for breakfast at 7am, but only departing after breakfast at 7.45-8am; and hanging out at the lodge at the end before our return for a couple of hours). Food was fine. Overall, a great experience in all the important ways!
Everything was perfect. Excellent guide, awesome experience
A fantastic experience! It is a tour I have wanted to do for years; going by bike was a little dream of mine to fulfill. The guides Remy and Cesar will follow you, putting safety first; they often go ahead of you, pointing out the spots to watch out for. They even took photos and videos of us, and that same evening we had a link from which to get the images! At the end of the tour, an excellent lunch, and they even took us back to the hotel, even though it wasn't required. The only note was perhaps the initial breakfast, a bit meager, and upon requesting a second cup of tea, we had to pay separately. But these are trifles compared to the impeccable service. Thanks again to the guides Remy and Cesar.
The tour was adventurous, fun & safe! Especially our guides Remy & Alvaro had a lot of humor, always an eye on everyone and gave us before every tricky section a clear briefing. The gear was top and overall we team atmosphere was lovely! Thanks for guiding us through the day so effortlessly. + props to the bus driver as well!
Amazing experience! A lot of fun and all required safety precautions! Great team, thanks a lot to our guides ! Thank you Remy, Alvaro and Cesar!
We had a well organized and fun day. Especially Remy and Alvaro gave us clear instructions every section which was really helpful to feel safe. We had an adventurous and fun time with the whole group and thanks for our guides to make it go so smoothly. + top gear and props to our bus driver as well!!
It was my first time mountain biking, and it was amazing! At first, I felt insecure, but Mauricio and Cristian helped me feel confident and have fun. I highly recommend Barracuda Biking!
A fantastic experience to drive on the "world's most dangerous road". Professionally arranged with Christian as our guide we were safely guided through the route. I did not feel insecure at any time and had some absolutely fantastic scenery during the trip. Can only recommend this activity.
