Description

Uncover why Time Out Magazine named Nørrebro the world’s coolest neighborhood on this immersive walking tour. To go like a local, you and your personal host will hop on the modern metro, heading straight into Nørrebro. Throughout the experience, you'll explore the roots of the World Happiness Index, discovering how Denmark's renowned welfare system was shaped by Nørrebro's historic working-class struggles. Midway through the walk, we’ll pause at a local spot to recharge with a delicious Danish pastry. Next, we'll stroll through Assistens Cemetery to view the graves of iconic Danes, including the legendary fairytale author Hans Christian Andersen. After taking in the colorful street art and unique atmosphere of bustling streets like Jægersborggade and Blågårdsgade, we'll head towards the city center. We conclude the tour at Flindt & Ørsted inside the beautiful, romantic Ørstedsparken, where you can unwind over a relaxing coffee break right by the scenic, ancient defense moat.

We begin our journey in the bustling heart of Copenhagen’s historic Central Station. Standing beneath the legendary, massive wooden arches and the station's iconic meeting clock, you will feel the pulse of the city as locals go by. Here, we gather for a brief introduction before heading straight to the platforms to catch our modern and self driving metro.

Admission included10 min

We will go like a local and take the clean, modern, and self-driving metro from the meeting point to Nørrebro Station. The 10-minute ride is included in your ticket, making it the perfect, hassle-free way to start our neighborhood adventure.

5 min

This urban park is a celebration of diversity, split into three distinct zones: The Red Square (modern urban life), The Black Market (a classic neighborhood square with a Moroccan fountain), and The Green Park (perfect for a quick lounge on the grass). Keep an eye out for global design treasures here—everything from neon signs from Russia to swings from Iraq and manhole covers from Paris! The vibrant graffiti on its walls tells stories of resistance, hope, and unity, reflecting the spirit of the community and its dedication to expression and change.

5 min

A picturesque street offering a mix of local shops, bakeries, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Known for its community feel and its proximity to Stefanskirken, it’s a true hidden gem in Nørrebro.

5 min

A vibrant street filled with gourmet restaurants, cozy coffee shops, and artisan boutiques. Known for its creative atmosphere, this is the perfect spot for foodies and trendsetters.

A historic cemetery and recreational area. The final resting place of famous figures like H.C. Andersen and Søren Kierkegaard.

Folkets Park is a green breathing space in Nørrebro, created by local residents and shaped by graffiti, creativity and a strong sense of community. At its centre stands Folkets Hus, a gathering place where people have spent decades working for social and political rights. Along the way, your guide shares stories about the park and the house, and how grassroots movements from this very spot have helped spark changes in Danish society. Here we get a close and personal insight into the struggles that helped shape the rights we enjoy today.

5 min

The heart and soul of Nørrebro, with cobblestone streets, charming cafés, and a vibrant, cultural vibe.

5 min

Experience the unique energy where cyclists, street artists, and locals gather.

20 min

We conclude our happiness tour with the ultimate lesson in hygge at Flindt & Ørsted, a café nestled inside the beautiful Ørstedsparken. This historic oasis, built on Copenhagen’s old fortification walls, is just a 10-minute stroll from the city center. Sitting by the picturesque lake (a remnant of the ancient city moat) surrounded by lush greenery, it is the perfect local spot to unwind, enjoy a drink, and experience the exact work-life balance that makes Danes so happy.

Learned so much on this walking tour with Steen! I don’t think I would have visited any of these parts of Copenhagen on my own. Would definitely recommend!

Operator response

A great day in Norrebro!

Our tour was phenomenal. Michael the owner of the company took us. This off the main tourist path walking through tour Norrebro was full of interesting facts, great art and culture, and delicious snacks. I highly recommend this tour! You will not be disappointed. This does not replace seeing all the historical sights *which they also have tours* but is an added extra.

Operator response

Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We're thrilled that you enjoyed exploring Nørrebro with us and discovered the hidden gems, vibrant art scene, and local flavours that make this neighbourhood so special. Michael loved sharing the stories and culture of the area with you. We appreciate your kind recommendation and look forward to welcoming you on another tour soon!

A Great Way To Spend The Afternoon Seeing Other Sides of Copenhagen

Having experienced most of the key sights in Copenhagen, we were looking to go a bit deeper and more ‘off menu’. This experience more than delivered. Our guide was part raconteur, part provocateur and part entertainer, and did a terrific job of showing us a different side of Copenhagen from a native’s perspective.

Operator response

Hi Barry, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed the tour overall and that Kris’s knowledge and storytelling made a positive impression. We’re sorry to hear about the delayed start and that you unfortunately missed the harbor ferry. We understand how disappointing this must have been, especially when it was one of the main reasons you chose the tour. We also appreciate your comments regarding the pace and the hot weather. Your feedback will be shared with our team as we continue to improve the experience for future guests. Thank you again for your thoughtful review and recommendation. Fabulous tour and guide

I booked this tour because I wanted to see a less touristy part of Copenhagen, and I’m so glad I did! I was the only person on the tour on a rainy, blustery morning (kudos to the tour company for not canceling.) The Norrebro neighborhood was very cool to see and explore. The best part of the tour was the guide, Maybritt. She was engaging and knowledgeable about the neighborhood, Copenhagen, and Denmark, but also went over and above the call of duty to really engage on a personal level. So much of the joy of travel is meeting and connecting with people from the country you are visiting, and I came away from this tour not just knowing more about Copenhagen and Denmark, but feeling like I’d made a Danish friend. Highly recommend.

Operator response

Learn about the people and culture

We had a great walking tour with Michael our guide. It was just my wife and me with him. Copenhagen is a beautiful city but with Michael we got to know one of the neighborhoods but more importantly about the culture and the people. This really helped us understand why Denmark is always rated as one of the most happy countries.

A Brilliant Tour understanding the Danish way of life

If you want to understand why Denmark consistently ranks among the happiest countries in the world, definitely book this tour🙏🏼 Michael doesn’t just walk you through Nørrebro - he opens up the Danish soul in a way that’s engaging, funny and surprisingly profound. He connects history, society, culture and everyday life so effortlessly that suddenly everything about Denmark makes sense: our welfare model, our working-class movements, our trust in each other, and even our quirky habits. Walking through the coolest neighborhood in the world (according to Time Out Magazine), Michael showed us hidden corners, street art with real stories behind it, and local hangouts we would never have found on our own. He made Jægersborggade, Blågårdsgade and Stefansgade come alive with anecdotes about the people who shaped them - from young creatives to historic activists. One of my favorite parts was how he tied in Danish cultural icons like H.C. Andersen. Instead of the usual fairytale clichés, Michael explained why Andersen is a true national treasure and how his life and work left deep imprints on Danish identity even today. It added a whole new layer of meaning to the tour. We even had a cozy little break for a local snack and drink, which made us feel like part of the neighborhood, not just tourists passing through. If you want a tour that is authentic, insightful and full of heart – take this one. And prepare to walk away with a whole new understanding of Copenhagen, Nørrebro and the Danish way of life. Highly, highly recommended. 🇩🇰✨

Operator response

Christie, thank you so much for joining a tour and for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review. It is wonderful to hear how clearly Michael was able to connect history, society, culture and daily life so that aspects like the welfare model, working class movements and Danish habits felt more understandable and meaningful. I will be sure to pass your kind words on to him. We are delighted that exploring Nørrebro, its side streets, street art and local spots helped you see a different side of Copenhagen, and that the visit to places like Jægersborggade, Blågårdsgade and Stefansgade, along with the break for a snack and drink, made you feel part of the neighborhood. It also means a lot that the way H C Andersen was woven into the stories added depth and gave you a fresh perspective on Danish identity. We would be very happy to welcome you back to Copenhagen for another walk in the future. Warm regards Christoph / Go Like a Local
