Itinerary
An idyllic Cotswold village nestling in a wooded valley.Voted the prettiest village in England. This has been a movie and historical drama film location for; Stardust, Warhorse & Poirot as well as the original Dr Dolittle. Time to wander around the cobbled streets and take in the view from the medieval market cross. Relax by the stream in front of the picture postcard weaver’s cottages. Discover the medieval clock in St Andrews church and the 13th Century tomb of Sir Walter de Dunstanville.
Lacock National Trust village is our location for lunch. This is an unspoilt National Trust village that appears as if trapped in time. There has been no major construction here for the last 200 years. Featuring in many films and period dramas including; Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Larkrise to Candleford and Downton Abbey to name a few. There is also an Abbey, one of the few remaining Tudor Monasteries which became home to William Fox Talbot, a major pioneer in photography. Entrance is not included in the tour price and visiting is optional. The Abbey is open from Spring to Autumn and more details are available on the National Trust website.
Walk freely amongst these magnificent stones. Soak up the atmosphere and the magical charm of this ancient site. Try your hand at dowsing. Time to wander around this pretty village with its 17th century thatched pub.
Early arrival at Stonehenge to ensure the best experience without the crowds. Entrance tickets to Stonehenge are reserved and picked up by your Mad Max guide to avoid queuing and delays. Plenty of time to visit the extensive information centre and wonderful displays. There is also a café for refreshments. Beautiful countryside but tour guide knowledge from guide, Kevin, made it memorable. Stonehenge audio a must
I booked the Stonehenge-Cotswolds tour with husband, as part of our wedding anniversary UK trip and it was wonderful, especially the Cotswolds! Highly recommend, and don’t miss the local cuisine! Lots of Harry Potter references, as well! Our guide, Andy, was amazing! Knowledgeable and entertaining, and so at ease. A major highlight of our trip!
Jason was our guide and probably one of the best and informative guides we’ve ever had through the years. There are four stops and we highly enjoyed the first three. We felt that the time at Stonehenge was much too long and I wish there was a way that it just had a tour with the first three stops - that would’ve been perfect. It was also a very warm day as England was having a hot, dry spell when we were there.
Loved it! Shaun was our guide, and he was so informative. Such a fun tour, lovely sights, that exceeded my expectations. Comfortable bus, small group, plenty of time to see things, but of course I wanted to stay longer at each stop. We saw so much more than I expected. Highly recommended!
Great way to see a lot of the area if you’re limited in time. We visited in order, Castle Comb, Lacock, Avebury and Stonehenge. Our guide, Bill, was very personable and knowledgeable and the information provided throughout the drive and various stops added greatly to the experience. They advertised this as a small group and that’s exactly what we had—13 participants with our guide on a small bus.
If someone is visiting this part of England they definitely need to see Stonehenge, and this tour is a convenient way to do that, and is also nice by including the Avebury stone circle and a couple pretty Cotswold towns. That's a lot to include in one day (including quite a bit of driving), but it flowed very well, and there was ample time at Stonehenge itself. Our guide gave a very good presentation, though (being very history-oriented myself) I would have liked a little more detail about the history of Avebury and Stonehenge (but I realize that a lot is unknown about that history). I was glad that the company suggested we download the free audio tour for Stonehenge. Be sure to leave a full day for sightseeing in Bath, but if you have time to do a full-day excursion outside the city, this is a really good one.
Fantastic tour! Jason was cheerful and knowledgable and made the journey an absolute delight. He knows so much, not just about the town but about Great Britain, its history, its idioms ... The coach was comfortable and our family had an absolute blast. Thank you!
We booked with Mad Max and could not have been more pleased! Our tour guide, Bill, was outstanding and had a great sense of humor, and was so knowledgeable. He tied the tour in with British history. The coach/van was very comfortable. We would definitely recommend this tour and would book with Mad Max again, especially if it was with Bill!
Bill is fantastic! We had a wonderful time on the tour. Highly recommend Mad Max tours.
Bill, our guide was fabulous! He was extremely knowledgeable and brought the history and culture of the area to life for us. The tour is well organized.
Hi Susan, we're glad you enjoyed the day with Bill. He is great for bringing the history and stories of the places we visit to life. Thanks for joining us. Best, Maya
