St Davids Comedy Walking Tour

Description

An original and hilarious comedy walking tour of St Davids, guided by the "actual" St David. This is a unique experience, covering thousands of years of absurd mythology and questionable local history. Expect heavily-embellished part-biographical stories from Wales's patron saint, as well as tall tales about Vikings, monks and leeks, all within the beautiful surroundings of Britain's Smallest City. This brilliantly imaginative and very silly tour is a must-do activity for anyone looking for something different on their visit to Pembrokeshire. Suitable for all, involves a moderate amount of walking. Dogs and children also very welcome! For large groups (10+) please get in touch via email.

Itinerary

15 min

The tour starts here and you will get to see the eco-friendly outside of the centre plus a hidden garden, the legendary St Non's Rocks and a Neolithic picnic table.

Pass by

Stryd yr Afr. Once a place of torment for the local monks, now clear of goats, we'll pass down freely without fear of being eaten.

10 min

Cross Square, St Davids, is the centre of the city, home to the local market, iconic cross monument and war memorial garden. You will hear stories about Welsh icon Owain Glyndwr, plus lesser known stories about the brotherhood of St David.

5 min

See the site of the oldest recorded bed &breakfast in the city (dating back to 11th century) and hear about a very famous former monarch who once stayed there.

5 min

An authentic RNLI barometer, yes, but it is so much more

Pass by

The tour ends at the cathedral where you will hear stories about an epic battle between the Devil and St Dai and the original monastery. We don't go down the steps, so you are free to explore the cathedral in your own time

Fun, funny, and informative walking tour

Masses of fun on this walking tour, with two very entertaining guides. We went as a family and with friends, and everyone enjoyed it - despite us all thinking we knew St. David's relatively well, we learnt something new (most of which was true). It was a lovely way to spend an evening, and thanks to the guides for making it so entertaining!

This was a lot of fun and nice way for a gentle walk around a lovely town. My daughter enjoyed the “Leek of Power” 😂

Highly recommended, joyfully silly walking tour

A wonderful walking tour, highly recommended if you’re in the area. Dog friendly which was a wonderful thing, our dog really enjoyed herself following Dai around! Rug was also very funny - love how her coconut shell hooves turned into an actual horse at one point! Awful jokes, in a good way! Thank you so much guys, for 90 minutes of fun.

Bonkers but brilliant!

Brilliant. Whacky but strangely educational. Within all the puns and laughter there was historical “ almost verifiable “ possible facts! Dai and Rug maybe comparable to Morecombe and Wise? Certainly one of the highlights of visiting this beautiful city. Do not miss out on this unique experience!

Surfing chip-eating monks

A fun tour of the lovely City of St David’s with the excellent guidance of St David (Dai to his mates) and Rug. Whoever could have guessed that the surf shops and the fish and chip shops were introduced to the city by monks! Great fun evening

Pleasant walk around St David’s

I really wanted to enjoy this comedy history walk and the two performers were clearly enthusiastic and committed to what they were doing. I think it’s very good value and Dai and Rug created a great atmosphere on our walk . Unfortunately the comedy didn’t quite land with our group, just not our taste i guess . That said , the performers put in a lot of effort into the experience and others with a different sense of humour may enjoy it more than we did .

Operator response

Thank you kindly for your honesty. Yes, the tour can't be to everyone's taste, but we appreciate that you took a gamble on it all the same. Fortunately we will take solace in the fact that there are many reviews below saying how much they have enjoyed the comedy - as ever, it's a subjective experience. Admittedly, this particular tour was on a very hot evening and it was clear that most of the group had run out of energy from a day of roasting themselves in the sun. So we do appreciate that you have acknowledged our commitment even when it was clear it wasn't quite landing on this occasion!

What's not to like?

Really funny, I particularly enjoyed being given the defensive leek to ward off the ghost. It's amusing, relaxed and a good time. Would recommend. And when you research it, it is actually 100% verifiable (well, nearly).

Operator response

So happy to hear you enjoyed yourself. Thank you for coming and wielding the leek with such professionalism!

Fabulous and Funny!

We had a fabulous evening walk with lots of laughter. It was perfect for all ages, our youngest family member was aged 7, and oldest 74, they ( and all of us in-between) loved it.

Operator response

Thank you so much for this review! Very glad to hear you all had a good time
