Not happy with the experience.

The reception and travel, instructions and travel there on to the site was good. The snowmobiles were in very good state. NEGATIVES: 1. The tour though felt very short. The break at the halfway point was way too long. The guide kept explaining to us about glaciers which is ok but shouldn't be a full blown half hour lecture. Time which we could have spent on the snowmobiles going deeper into the ice cap. 2. They charge extra for solo Travellers on top of the already very pricey fees. There is no other reason than you being solo on the snowmobile. 3. They dont take any sort of pictures or videos during the trip, They will help if you have your own camera equipment as much as possible. I had forgotten my gopro and saw that the guide had an instapro that he was taking on the trip. I nrequested him for some footage which he agreed to after finishing the trip. Once back at the offices, he mentioned the recording never happened as the memory was full. I find this very specious excuse. I saw him click on the insta 360.multiple times on the trip. Sharing a quick 30 sec video with someone who has paid extra for just being a solo traveler should be pretty straightforward. This left a sour taste in my mouth to the extent I cannot recommend glacier journey for others

Operator response

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are pleased to hear that you found the reception, travel arrangements and instructions good, and that you were happy with the condition of the snowmobiles. Regarding the length of the tour and the stop along the way, all information about the tour, including the total duration, is clearly provided at the time of booking. One of our guides’ responsibilities is to educate guests about the glaciers, the surrounding environment and the unique area they are visiting. We understand that not everyone may have the same level of interest in this, but sharing this knowledge is an important part of the experience we offer. As for photographs and videos, of course our guides are always happy to assist guests in taking pictures with their own cameras or phones whenever possible. However, taking photographs or videos on the guide’s personal equipment for later distribution to guests is not part of the service we provide. Our guides cannot be responsible for guests forgetting their own cameras or equipment, and unfortunately we cannot guarantee personal footage from the guides’ devices. We are genuinely sorry that this particular issue left a bad taste in your mouth after the experience. That was certainly not our intention. We do hope that, wherever your next adventure takes you, you remember to bring the equipment you would like to use to capture your own memories. Once again, thank you for taking the time to write a review and for sharing your experience with us. We appreciate all feedback, as it gives us an opportunity to understand our guests’ expectations and continue improving our service.

Adrenaline on a glacier

They give you equipment (jumpsuit, gloves, bandana) but if you bring your own gloves it is better because of the fit. It is important to wear suitable boots. Otherwise, an unforgettable experience. No prior knowledge is needed to drive. An experience different from the rest of those offered by Iceland

Unforgettable Time Snowmobiling & Super Jeep!

We had a great experience with Glacier Journey! The snowmobiling tour was one of the highlights of our trip even though we had “white out” conditions and didn’t get the views as seen in other photos. It was still a blast and a really cool experience. Our guides were great, we felt safe and well prepared after thorough instructions. My boyfriend and I did end up booking separate snowmobiles (website emphasizes a 390 lb limit) which did not cost too much more and ended up being fun to drive our own. The jeep ride up the glacier itself to access the snowmobiles was awesome. I recommend booking directly through them as it was a better deal than other sites. Glacier Journey also offers Super Jeep Tours which we were extremely grateful for because my two older parents were traveling with us and could not have done the snowmobiling. At first I thought we would have to pass up the snowmobiles all together until I realized they offered the jeep tours with a driver so we were able to book that for my parents while we snowmobiled. They loved their guide Asi and had nothing but positive things to say! Everyone received an unforgettable experience with Glacier Journey!!

A truly fun and unique experience in Iceland

We had a great time with Stephan who was a stellar guide, extremely knowledgeable on everything related to the experience, really made the experience unique. It was my first time on a snow mobile and it was a very fun experience, from the ride up in the cool super jeep to the actual ride on the snow mobiles, I highly recommend doing it while in Iceland

These Floridians had a great time snowmobiling across Iceland's largest glacier.

My sons and I had a great time on this tour. This was our first time ever being on a snowmobile. Our guide explained the snowmobile operation perfectly and we were able to confidently make our ride across the Vatnajökull glacier. The visibility on the glacier during our visit wasn't ideal due to weather conditions, but we still had a blast doing something we can't do at home in Florida.

Unforgettable snowmobile experience on Vatnajokul glacier

Awesome experience and so much information and knowledge shared by the guide Stephen. He made it a very fun and exciting experience for us all and especially for our kids. He was very patient with our group of 7 as it was a first time for many of us riding the snow mobile and went at our pace

Glacier tour

It was great- snowmobile harder to steer than expected. If you sign up alone, you also ride alone

Glacier journey snowmobile

We booked this through our hotel the day before. At the base camp, customers are issued snowsuits, gloves, scarf and helmet. All were high quality in good condition. Big ride in modified van to glacier summit. Snowmobiles were newish, Lynx with 600cc Rotax engine. Good power for a tour group. Nice guided ride across the glacier to a lookout point. Good time! Could have been another hour or two as far as I’m concerned. Great way to get on the glacier. Would do again/recommend.
