Itinerary

Pass by

Brouwersgracht, the brewers' canal, made Amsterdam rich with beer money 400 years ago. The fancy houses you see? Built by beer makers who got wealthy here. Now artists and locals live in old warehouses. You'll spot houseboats covered in flowers where people actually live year-round

Pass by

Herengracht has been Amsterdam's fanciest street since 1612, when rich guys built massive houses here. These belonged to mayors and traders who got wealthy from spice trading. These aren't museums - they're still the most expensive homes in Europe. The canal stretches 2.4 kilometers through the heart of the city.

Pass by

Blauwburgwal is tiny at just 100 meters long but packed with big history. The name means "blue fortress wall" from when it protected the city. In 1940, bombs hit this street and killed 44 people. Now it's quiet and narrow. Most tourists miss it completely.

Pass by

Singel is Amsterdam's original moat that kept enemies out until the city got too big for its boots. Spot the world's narrowest house at number 7

Pass by

Haarlemmersluis is the 17th-century lock where herring used to get packed and shipped. Now canal boats pass through daily where fish traders once made their fortunes.

Pass by

The IJ is Amsterdam's huge water that used to connect to the North Sea. This is where the city's sea adventures began and ships from everywhere still dock. You'll see old Amsterdam on one side and modern buildings on the other - showing how this city keeps growing.

Pass by

Amsterdam Noord is where young creatives live across the water. Artists took over old factories here after industry moved out. The NDSM Wharf used to build ships but now it's full of art studios and startups. Old meets new everywhere you look.

Pass by

Houthavens loaded timber for centuries. Now young professionals live in glass towers while old harbor cranes watch like metal giraffes.

Pass by

Prinseneiland is the smallest Western Island where artists made their home. After WWII, creative people moved into empty warehouses here. It used to store wine, tobacco, and salt for the Dutch West India Company. Now those same buildings house charming canal homes.

Pass by

Realeneiland, named after the rich Reael family, is where Amsterdam built its ships. Shipbuilders, fish packers, and tar companies made this island buzz with work. Thirteen sea captains' houses still stand from when ocean money was made right here.

Pass by

Lijnbaansgracht, the rope canal, got its name from rope makers who needed long spaces to make ship rigging. Built in 1612, parts got filled in during the 1800s to create squares and streets you still see today connecting neighborhoods.

Pass by

Bloemgracht, the flower canal, ranks as one of Amsterdam's most beautiful waterways. Trees and 1600s buildings create perfect light that everyone tries to capture. Locals bike past while visitors stop for photos. The name flower canal makes total sense when you see it.

Pass by

Café Papeneiland has been operating since 1642 on this famous corner. This brown café serves the apple pie that made Bill Clinton order a whole one to take away. The wooden inside and old tiles tell stories of Dutch history with pure Amsterdam vibes.

Pass by

Prinsengracht - 3.2 kilometers of Amsterdam's longest canal. Anne Frank hid here. Rembrandt's buried at Westerkerk. Houseboats where creatives live.

Pass by

Egelantiersgracht gets its name from the wild rose and was built for skilled workers and craftsmen. The houses are smaller than the fancy main canals because real working people lived here instead of rich merchants. That's exactly why they're so popular with locals now.

Pass by

Leliegracht, the lily canal, offers one of Amsterdam's most peaceful waterways lined with beautiful 1600s buildings. Small boats float by while locals drink coffee at cute cafés along the banks. It's a hidden gem that most visitors never find.

Pass by

The Jordaan neighborhood used to be Amsterdam's poor area but now it's the most wanted place to live. Built for craftsmen and working people who made their own music and culture. Since the 1970s, artists and young professionals discovered this maze of small streets and cozy cafés.

Pass by

Keizersgracht, the emperor's canal, stands as Amsterdam's widest famous canal. Built during the Golden Age, it shows off preserved merchant houses that now hold cozy cafés, shops, and galleries. The trees explode with color every spring.

Pass by

The corner where Keizersgracht meets Brouwersgracht creates the Instagram spot photographers hunt for. Two canals meet and make four lit tunnel views at night. When bridge lights come on, this becomes pure Amsterdam magic and the perfect end to your water journey.

Pass by

We'll snap a classic Polaroid of your group with Amsterdam's canal houses behind you. Stick it on your fridge and remember the day you saw Amsterdam like locals do - from the water, at the right pace, with good people.

Small-Group Canal Cruise That Beats the Big Tour Boats — Highly Recommend

We booked this for a small group of us (4, two of us joined by two friends) alongside another group of 3, and it was one of the best things we did on the trip. Our guide piloted the boat herself and clearly knew the canal network inside and out — she took us through narrower waterways that the bigger canal tour boats simply can't access. Drinks were included onboard, and she asked upfront if we had specific spots we wanted to see, which made the whole route feel personal rather than a fixed script. Great mix of local history and canal trivia without ever feeling like a lecture. If you want an intimate, flexible alternative to the standard glass-top tour boats, this is it. Highly recommend.

Jannah was lovely guide, communicated well when there was a change in time. Small group with a small boat meaning we got to go places the bigger commercial boats couldn't go. Would recommend

A very pleasant cruise

Meeting point was very easy to find convenient to Amsterdam Centraal. Janna, our captain, reached out to us to reschedule our reservation due to code red heat warning, so we took advantage of an earlier time. As it turned out we were the only 2 on the boat! We had a very pleasant and informative 90 minute cruise. Jannah was very personable and we really appreciated her consideration regarding the schedule. Highly recommended!

Perfect!

10/10. Cute boat, good communication before the trip, and Joshua was sweet, a great host, made it fun, and was like an encyclopedia of knowledge! You cannot ask him a question he doesn’t know. Could’ve cruised around all day!

Please do not overlook this tour!! If you want something quaint and personable versus crowded and loud, this is the tour for you. Our guide grew up in Amsterdam and was very knowledgeable about the area, waterways, nature, etc! She was also very understanding when we could not find the meeting place right away. She helped us find our way! Also- only my husband and I had booked the time we went, so we ended up with a private tour!!

Best canal cruise around

Absolutely amazing experience! A beautiful boat with a knowledgeable captain. They adjusted the journey based on our interests and had lots of fun facts and information about all the sights. They even had dinner recommendations based on where we were going to be later that evening. Highly recommend the quiet and personal experience this tour can give you. Better than any other larger tour that is not catered to your interests.

A wonderful experience!

A very welcoming personal boat trip around the Canals of Amsterdam. It really was perfect. It was decided that whilst being in Amsterdam, one of the "must do`s" is a canal trip, but we did not wish to be herded onto a large boat with plenty of others. We then read a few reviews of this wonderful little tour. As there were not so many reviews, we thought we would take a chance. We can honestly say we made the correct decision. We arrived on the side of the canal early. Diana (the name of the boat) arrived along with Johanna as skipper. From then on, we knew this was going to be great despite the late October grey sky. We expected more people to show up as the trip was advertised for a "small group, with a maximum of 6 people". However, when Johanna got off the boat, she informed us that we were the only ones who had booked. We were informed the small business has only been going since the summer and are happy to take anyone that books the tour, even if it was only going to be 1 person. Therefore, we had the boat to ourselves. Johanna, said for us to be comfortable, relax, kick off the shoes, wrap yourselves in the blankets and pull up the cushions.... which we certainly did. We then had the most amazing tour through the canals of Amsterdam, just what we wanted. Johanna has lived in Amsterdam all her life, so it was interesting chatting with her, getting to know all the facts and how real people from Amsterdam feel about the place and how they live. Thank you, Johanna, for making the trip memorable. We certainly hope more people that visit Amsterdam would choose this way to see the canals. Thank you for helping us make some wonderful memories.

Laid back, unique, and the best way to see the city! We loved how they truly "drifted differently".

This was one of the best decisions of our first trip to Amsterdam. We wanted a low key experience and a small group setting to explore Amsterdam from the canals - this absolutely delivered. Beer was such a wonderful host - clearly knowledgeable and passionate about his city. We were fortunate enough to have the boat to ourselves, and we had great conversation the whole time. We had so many questions, and Beer was so kind and patient to address every single one. Architecture, the locks, history, real estate, the Red Light District... anything was on topic. True to the description, there was no scripted tour, and no dull moments. We learned so much about the canals and culture of the city. The boat, itself, is beautiful. And because it was small, I felt we could go anywhere, and that we DID go anywhere that supported our questions and conversations. I saw a cat on a house boat, and Beer changed course so I could get a picture, lol. I'd go again on another visit, and feel that I'd see something completely new the next time. My recommendation is to go early in your trip, because then when you are walking the city later, it sparks connections to how you saw the city from the water. They also give you a curated list of places to try across the city - the awesome local places you may not stumble upon with a Google Maps search. If you love living like a local, this is the answer - stop scrolling, this is the canal tour you want!

Unique private canal experience

Truly unique way to experience the canals in a private and boutique experience, friendly guide and you really get to see some Off the Beaten path routes away from the crowd. So much more relaxing, no need to make small talk or share the Boat with strangers. Highly recommend

Operator response

Hey Jin Ahn! Lovely to meet you and your parents on the boat. I really enjoyed all the questions from your dad too. Hopefully you survived all the culture shocks! kind regards, Beer
