Itinerary
Explore the wonderful world of the Renaissance and visit Castle Ambras (Schloss Ambras) in Innsbruck. Situated in the hills above Innsbruck and visible from afar, the castle is one of the provincial city's most popular attractions. Be amazed by the impressive jousting armor suits in the Armory Cabinets (Rüstkammer), glance at the artifacts in the Chamber of Art and Curiosities and see the bathing facilities used by Philippine Welser, which will give you an idea of the 'spa culture' in the 16th century. Admire the stunning Spanish Hall, one of the most beautiful Renaissance halls of its kind in the world, and see the famous Habsburg portrait gallery. Habsburg Archduke Ferdinand II ordered the redesign of the original fortress for his wife Philippine as well as the construction of another building to accommodate his valuable collections.

An impressive site if you like everything related to history, more specifically the Renaissance. Many paintings, armor, weapons, representations, objects from the era, and everything explained so that you get into context. You have history of Austria, Portugal, Spain, France, and Germany, more oriented toward their leaders or relevant figures of the era.
Easy to access location by bus. Excellent historical information and artifacts. We visited Ambras castle first and found after visiting other historical spots in Austria that this was one of the best both in displays and price. Seeing Ambras Castle first was a good foundation for the historical sights in Salzburg and Vienna. One of the most interesting collections of historical items I saw
I did not expect to see so few things: the armory was very interesting, but for the rest: a lot of stairs and no furnished room.
Nice but it could have been better if they would have given me the Audio translator as contracted. The German in the woman receptionist just wanted to argue
The Whitaker Inn couldn't have been a nicer experience. It's a beautiful inn on lovely grounds, north of the Purdue and downtown area. Our room (the Japan room...each is based on a country) was comfortable, clean, and attractive. Our (included) breakfast was chosen by us the night before with a checklist that had so many choices...and was absolutely delicious. Patrons have the option to have breakfast in their room or in the dining room. We also had reserved dinner (not included) for the night of our arrival (which needs to be selected in advance). They are many choices. We both chose salmon, loaded baked potatoes, and a salad...all delicious! There are games and puzzles, as well as a pool table. There are rocking chairs outside in front as well as comfortable chairs and couches in the living room area. The best part of the Inn is the friendliness and warm welcome from the staff. We can't wait to return!
Beautiful really not to be missed, the ticket costs 18 euros free up to 18 years with friendly and helpful staff there is the possibility of audio guide. The rooms are really nice and just as the gardens we were really happy, the only flaw is the paid parking with reduced spaces on the street. However I recommend everyone to visit it if passing through Innsbruck.
Audio tour very interesting. Great information. Staff in all areas were very nice and helpful. I’d recommend to anybody.
Super well maintained property with everything. Great story. Is definitely worth a visit, whether alone or in a group
Ambras Castle in Innsbruck not to be missed and, in my opinion the most interesting visit than Innsbruck offers. Full ticket 18€ and up to 19 years free with audio guide highly recommended to immerse yourself in the history and magnificent collection of Archduke Ferdinand II who donated Castle and land to his wife Philippine Welser in order to guarantee him for life the status, since the morganatic marriage was secret precisely because she did not have noble rank. The ticket office with very kind staff who offered explanations also in excellent Italian from also the opportunity to buy souvenirs for souvenirs. The spectacular gardens with royal peacocks that run undisturbed in a fairytale setting. 💕
Much diversity in Castle’s exhibits. English explanations/details abundant. Intriguing Room of Curiosities and armour/jousting explanations. Spanish Hall beautiful (guest violinist practicing with local classical music orchestra when I visited… wonderful). 12-15 minute ride from Markt-Platz on bus M (free using city tourist card I got from my hostel).
