The Marble Church – an architectural masterpiece in the heart of Copenhagen We meet between the stairs leading down to the Marble Church Metro Station, right next to a 7-Eleven, making it an easy and convenient spot to find your guide before we begin exploring this elegant area. Discover one of Copenhagen’s most iconic landmarks, the Marble Church (Frederik’s Church), celebrated for its magnificent dome, the largest in Scandinavia. Inspired by St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, this architectural gem took more than 150 years to complete and is built from striking Norwegian marble with beautifully detailed craftsmanship throughout. As part of our Copenhagen walking tour, it’s a highlight for anyone who loves architecture, history, and culture, and a perfect place to pause and admire the charm of Frederiksstaden, the royal district surrounding the church.

Admission not included5 min

Nyboder – Copenhagen’s historic naval quarter and hidden gem Step into the story of Nyboder, one of Copenhagen’s most distinctive neighborhoods, founded in 1631 by King Christian IV to house Denmark’s naval families. As part of our Copenhagen walking tour, we stop by the small Nyboder Memorial Rooms, a true hidden gem in Copenhagen, where you can peek through the windows and glimpse scenes from centuries past. Inside, the preserved museum spaces reveal the everyday lives of sailors and their families, with original artifacts, uniforms, and maritime relics that tell the story of Denmark’s proud naval heritage. A quiet, authentic corner of the city that captures Copenhagen’s history in its purest form.

Pass by

Wander through the picturesque and peaceful Krusemyntegade, a charming street lined with colorful, historic houses that exude Copenhagen’s old-world charm. Nestled in the Nyboder district, this quaint area offers a glimpse into the city’s maritime past, with its distinctive architecture originally built for naval families. A perfect stop for a leisurely stroll and a peek into Copenhagen’s lesser-known history!

Rosenborg Castle – royal history in Copenhagen’s oldest garden Admire the fairytale-like Rosenborg Castle, one of Copenhagen’s most beloved landmarks, built by King Christian IV in the early 1600s. This Renaissance masterpiece sits at the heart of the King’s Garden (Kongens Have), Denmark’s oldest and most elegant royal park. From the outside, the castle offers breathtaking photo opportunities and a glimpse into Danish royal history and architecture. As we stroll through the gardens on our Copenhagen walking tour, you’ll feel the calm contrast between the lively city and this peaceful royal oasis.

From the outside, you can admire its elegant spiral design and copper-clad roof rising above the old town skyline — a perfect photo stop and a beautiful glimpse into Copenhagen’s royal and scientific heritage.

Built on centuries of royal foundations, the palace today houses Denmark’s Parliament, Supreme Court, and the Royal Reception Rooms, making it the only building in the world that unites all branches of government under one roof. From the outside, you’ll take in its grand façade and ornate copper spire, while hearing stories of kings, queens, fires, and political intrigue that have shaped Danish history for more than 800 years. As we pause here on our Copenhagen walking tour, you’ll experience how this site continues to bridge the past and present, a powerful symbol of both royal tradition and modern democracy.

The best 2 hours to understand Copenhagen

We booked a 2-hour tour with my daughter with Go Like A Local, which was recommended to us by a staff at the Copenhagen Tourism Office. While I had requested a group tour (maximum 12 participants), it was our lucky day that we it was just the 2 of us. But what made us extra lucky was to have Bob as our guide. The city at this time of the year is a jewel but Bob made it sparkle. He took us through the historical part of town, taking us through both the grand castle and gardens but also (our favourite part) through the smaller and charming cobbled streets, alleys and squares. He gave us an insightful overview of Denmark and Copenhagen : famous people, politics, pop culture, language, history, gastronomy, royal gossips, Nobel prize, architecture …. In 2 hours we learned so much, all the while laughing as Bob is such a fun and outgoing person Bob is a true ambassador for his country and city. Tak Bob !

Operator response

Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Cecile! We're thrilled to hear that you and your daughter had such a memorable experience with Bo. It sounds like you truly got the best out of our tour, the grandeur of Copenhagen's historic landmarks combined with those charming cobbled streets and hidden squares that make our city so special. We love that Bo's passion for Copenhagen, combined with his fun personality, helped you both learn so much about Denmark's culture, history, and fun facts in just two hours! We're so grateful for your kind words and for choosing Go Like a Local. Bo is indeed a true ambassador, and we're lucky to have him on our team. We hope to welcome you two back to Copenhagen soon! Best regards, Kris Go Like a Local

Try this tour!

We were a small group, so received a most individualized experience, rich in history and architecture, with great humor and insight. This tour was a great bargain, yet short enough not to wear you out with unnecessary walking and standing.

Operator response

Thank you so much, Matthew! Fantastic to hear that the small group size allowed for such a personalized experience, and that you appreciated the perfect balance of rich history, architecture, and your host's. We really appreciate your kind words and look forward to welcome you back! Cheers, Kris Go Like a Local
