Ideal excursion spot, great weather, and a very good view of the mountains. But the self-service restaurant does not meet the desired quality. The food was bad. A shame for this mountain!

Opened in 1893, the nostalgic cogwheel railway carries visitors up to the breath-taking Schynige Platte with a wonderful mountain scenery and a popular hiking region with unparalleled views of the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau
The trip is unguided, you may just board the train. You find the location/GPS of the departure station on Google and on the Jungfrau Railways website. The railway’s lovingly maintained historic locomotives and carriages make the journey itself a wonderful experience for people of all ages. Highlights on Schynige Platte, at 1967 metres above sea level, are the Botanical Alpine Garden with 600 different species of plants and many hiking trails. When hiking on the Schynige Platte you don't get very far. Every few steps you stop to admire the stars, umbels and bells that bloom on the meadows. Or you can stop to admire the panorama. Everyone starts to slow down the pace. If they have not already done so: in the nostalgic trip on the Schynige Platte Railway or later in the restaurant with its breathtaking view. Daily during the season you can enjoy the warm tones of the alphorn from 11 am to 2 pm.

The ride on this historic cog wheel railway is incredible and the destination (the plateau) takes it to another level. How do you build a railway track up such incredible inclines, and how on earth can a train go up and down gradients that humans would struggle to walk on? Incredible views on the journeys up and down, and on the walk around the hidden plateau that you find at the top. Really worth doing, well worth the cost.
This was a great day out for the whole family. The train took an hour and showed incredible views including meadows, cows and further up,snowy mountains .Upon arrival,we took the pink route which was about an hour's hike. The views of the mountains were stunning and there were points in which you could see the lakes below. All in all, I would fully recommend this experience!
What an awesome adventure! Slow climb to the top in an old timey cog train, every view as you climb is even more beautiful then the last one! When you reach the top there are a few different trails to hike from simple to challenging, also a gift shop/snack bar. This is a definite DO!
Historic cog wheel train, takes about an hour, seats are wooden and uncomfortable. It was a very hot day so glad the windows opened. Great views as you proceed up the mountain.
The view was priceless and the panoramic hike was very beautiful and very doable. However, I would recommend the excursion outside of peak and vacation times, because the seats on the train are limited and are filled to the last one.
A ride up the Schynige Platte with the historic cars is great. The view becomes more fantastic the higher the track "climbs". A ride takes 50 minutes. Enjoy these, because I can't understand the people who sleep during such a trip.;-) The only negative: the day before our trip was storm and the timetable was limited. The limited timetable was also valid on our sunny, windless following day. Only, the SBB app did not turn on these restrictions. We had to wait for the next connection in Wilderswil for over an hour. On request to the SBB, we were informed that this was due to the Jungfrau Railways, because they had not communicated the information to the SBB. Communication between the two Enterprises has room for improvement.
It was just a super great day! From online ticket purchases to information about available parking spaces, rail travel to catering is a hit. Almost everywhere very friendly people who made the day a great experience. Added to that, we moved in an absolutely fantastic autumn day...
Hotel top, staff very accommodating top, friendly, clean room, food top, view top....what more could you want
A unique experience!! Especially in autumn highly recommended when it has high fog and you can enjoy the sun and the early sunset. The place has fully convinced, everything was great.
