Don’t miss this museum
I love SFMOMA-I live here and had a staycation day in the city. The exhibits we’re great and the permanent exhibits like the living wall and Eliason Bridge are fantastic

Eclectic Selection
I have been to museums of modern art from east to west coast and cities in between. The San Francisco MoMA had what felt like a very eclectic selection of modern pieces. I particularly loved the works by Warhol and the large-scale objects on display by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. Also fascinating was the exhibition called Ways Of Seeing: Fourteen Artists, which was a series of monographic galleries dedicated to 14 artists whose works reflect a variety of mediums, styles and approaches. If you’re moving along at a good pace you can comfortably see everything the MoMA has to offer in about 2 hours. At $30 a ticket (not including specialty add-on exhibits), it is kind of steep, but you cannot put a price on classic pieces of art that have changed the world. I would recommend this MoMA to anyone, visitor and San Francisco local alike.

SF MOMA- YES worth it!
I walked from the Grand Hyatt and used my GPS. It was a nice walk. The museum is lovely and very bright and dare I say Modern. I really enjoyed the Calder display. The book store/ gift shop is lovely. Plan some time to tour there. I ate lunch in the museum cafe. Nice coffees and simple sandwich- very good.

Matisse Exhibit
My mom and I just visited SFMOMA for the new Henri Matisse exhibit. What a gem! There were so many wonderful, world-famous works of art displayed as they were originally shown in 1900s Paris. It was especially interesting to learn about Matisse and the Stein family. Such an amazing period in history. In addition to the exhibit, we enjoyed works by Hockney, Rivera, Warhol, Lichtenstein, and many others. It’s a very important collection that you won’t want to miss if you’re visiting San Francisco. And the bookstore is awesome!

Make sure this is in your rainy day plan B, or mid-priority if plan A
Seven stories but exhibition to level five only. As two galleries were closed, the reception helped ensure that I could return to view them when they are opened gratis (guess she didn’t know I was a tourist). Must say that some galleries were absolutely fabulous, while others were okay. You can take photos for remembrance. Quite a good deal for the price ($15). Should be able to spend about 45 minutes here.

Good value overall but the content is a bit disappointing.
The Museum of modern are is enjoyable but many of the floors are closed. Overall worth it and you need a few hours.

SF Moma - Needed more art!
SF Moma is undergoing some modifications to exhibits and interior. We opted not to take the KAWS tour on the 4th floor, so really only saw exhibits on Floor 5, 3 and 1. Not enough for me as an NYC MOMA visitor to explore. The Suzanne Jackson exhibit was amazing - loved learning about her and her process. Lovely building and close to FANG (great restaurant) but was helpful to have tickets that would be good until June 2026. Great for kids, and loved the outdoor sculpture space.
