Some of the reasons I didn't like this tour:
The vehicle was old and we sat sideways. There were no seatbelts nor was there a back to the vehicle. I frequently slid backwards toward the open rear of the car, so I had to hold on for three hours to keep from sliding out of the car.
The car had no shock absorbers and my spine registered everyone of the zillions of potholes and bumps long the way.
The 'rain forest' was not a 'TROPICAL' rain forest so we were told to be on the lookout for 4 types of birds and several types of trees. For comparision I'm from New England and any forest in my area has deer, turtles, hawks, eagles, bears, butterflies and many other forms of wildlife to enjoy. By the end of this tour we had seen 4 chickens (seriously)
The trees were lush but, again, not uncommonly so.
We saw hangliders taking off and stopped at several overlooks with nice views. But they were mostly the same as we saw in Sugarloaf and Corcorvado.
Roberto our guide and driver, tried hard. He did give us raincoats which kept us warm and dry. He made many comments about the forest but we didn't hear them as were were riding in the open rear of the vehicle.
The last segement of the tour was about 90 minutes of driving along twisty, rough roads while Roberto tried to entertain us. The forest was so boring that he resorted to stopping at peoples houses to comment on their driveways.
Because it rained recently we did not do the usual walk up to one of the peaks. When I say 'up' I mean "UP!!!!!". Maybe a kilometer or two of steep incline whereas the advertisements for the tour mentions 'moderate' walks. I'm 84 and in good health but my mountain climbing days a far behind me.
Operator response
This is an open-air jeep tour through a tropical rainforest, not a conventional city tour. Travelers should carefully read the full description and make sure they are comfortable with uneven roads and walking, especially if they have mobility limitations.
For everyone considering this tour, please note the physical requirements. It involves approximately 30 minutes of uphill walking and 30 minutes downhill, with some minor obstacles along the trail. The walk is generally considered easy to intermediate, depending on each person’s fitness level. Guests should also wear suitable clothing and footwear for a forest trail.
Unfortunately, the guests did not follow this recommendation and arrived without appropriate clothing for this type of tour.
Once our guide realized that some guests were not physically prepared for the walking portion and that one of them had serious back problems, he adapted the itinerary and skipped certain places to accommodate them. As this was a shared tour, these changes unfortunately affected the experience of the other travelers who were prepared for the advertised itinerary.
They also complained throughout the tour, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere for the group.
As the reviewer mentioned being 84 and no longer comfortable with mountain walking, a private tour focused on Rio’s urban attractions would likely have been more suitable.
Nevertheless, Roberto remained attentive and did his best to assist everyone.
Contrary to what was stated in the review, Tijuca Forest is part of the Atlantic Forest and is a tropical rainforest. Wildlife can be spotted in its natural environment. The chances of seeing wildlife were also reduced because we could not cover the entire planned itinerary due to the adjustments made to accommodate their needs.
Thank you.

The jeep tour was a great experience our guide Lauro was amazing, very knowledgeable about the history of Rio, nature and animals full of facts and stories, and a great sense of humour. He made the experience very enjoyable. The climb to discover the most amazing views of Rio was well worth it, seeing a sloth, monkeys and raccoons was amazing. This will truly be one of the highlights of our trip.

Wonderful and unforgettable experience
It is a must-see tour because it allows you to reach incredible places, with unique views. I went with my partner, both of us lovers of photography and nature, and we were truly fascinated. We were fortunate to have Lauro as our guide, a wonderful, attentive, friendly person who generously shared his extensive experience and great knowledge of history with the group. Whether driving his jeep or during the hikes on the trails, he took care of us at all times, gave us advice, and made sure that everyone enjoyed every moment. We shared the tour with three other tourists (from the United States, Canada, and Arabia), and a fantastic group formed with them. Lauro speaks perfect English and Spanish, so we could all understand each other and have a lot of fun. Keep in mind: there is a 30-minute uphill walk (and then downhill) that requires appropriate footwear, either sports shoes or, even better, trekking shoes, so you should also consider that it is a moment of some physical demand. In any case, the guide adjusts the pace according to the needs of the group. Upon reaching the summit, the reward will leave them speechless. Even if it is not a cool day, wear a light jacket since sitting in the jeep while receiving the breeze makes it necessary, just like when exploring the interior of the jungle where the trees block the sun. We did not need to use repellent, but sunscreen is indeed important. There is a waterfall where you can swim, so wear your swimsuit! There are restrooms available along the way, and a café in the midst of nature, with homemade treats and refreshing drinks, ideal for taking a break. It was truly one of the best tours I have ever done!! Thank you, Lauro!!

Fantastic Jeep Tour in Tijuca Forest – Great for Families
We had an amazing jeep tour through Floresta da Tijuca. Everything was perfectly organized and very enjoyable from start to finish.
Our guide, Roberto, was exceptional—kind, attentive, and very knowledgeable. He explained a lot about the forest, nature, and local wildlife, and he took us to areas where he knew animals often appear, which made the tour truly special (saw monkeys, sloth, birds)
Our 8‑year‑old son loved every minute and was completely fascinated. The highlight of the tour was definitely Pedra Bonita—the views were stunning, and we had enough time to take photos (Roberto was also our photograph).
I highly recommend this tour, especially for families with children above 6. A perfect mix of nature, adventure, and learning!

Worth Every Penny
Our guide Roberto was fantastic! The adventure with him was lots of fun, and he was very engaging and knowledgeable about the spots we visited along the hike. It was a long trek up to the top of Tijuca but it was worth all the effort. The drive back down and along the coast provided for some postcard-style views.

Fantastic experience!...
Fantastic experience! Worth every dollar! Our guide Roberto was very engaging and knowledgeable about the forest and each stop/landmark. Due to a holiday, the initial hiking path was crowded so we took a different hike, which was longer but well worth the trek to the highest point of Tijuca mountain.
